On this occasion, I'm sharing a pattern for a tablecloth decorated with gold ribbon along the edges. It complements a turquoise placemat with gold ruffles. This simple project is useful for covering the table and protecting it from spills, especially when there are babies in the house. It requires few materials and can be decorated to suit individual tastes.
During the sewing process, I had some difficulty attaching the gold ribbon. It's the first time I've used this type of ribbon in sewing projects, and I didn't realize it would be so difficult to sew. At first glance, it looks like a smooth ribbon, easy to sew, but when it comes to attaching it, perhaps because of the amount of glitter on the top, it's difficult. In fact, two needles broke during this step, so I decided to sew it as slowly as possible and use a thicker needle. With this, I was able to finish sewing the ribbon. Initially, I was using a size 14 needle, which is the most common size for this type of fabric, but it wasn't enough. I had to use a size 18 needle, which made the process easier, but I still sewed slowly to avoid breaking another needle. I invite you to join me in the process of creation.
Saludos amigos artesanos y comunidad Hivediy, estamos próximos a finalizar el año 2025 deseo que hayan tenido una hermosa noche de Navidad en unión de sus seres queridos y que el nuevo año venga cargado de grandes bendiciones para cada hogar y familia, que el amor la Paz la prosperidad y la armonía reine en cada uno de sus hogares y puedan lograr las metas trazadas para el año 2026; en esta ocasión les comparto la elaboración de un mantel decorado con cinta dorada en los bordes, es el complemento de un individual en color turquesa con volados dorados, además un proyecto sencillo de hacer y útil para cubrir la mesa y protegerla de posible derrames de líquido y comida, especialmente cuando hay bebés en casa, requiere pocos materiales y se decora de acuerdo al gusto de cada persona.
Durante el proceso de elaboración, tuve un poco de dificultad para pegar la cinta dorada, es la primera vez que utilizo este tipo de cinta en los proyectos de costura y no sabía que era tan difícil de coser, a simple vista parece una cinta suave sin complicaciones para coserla, pero al momento de pegarla tal vez por la cantidad de brillantes que tiene la parte de arriba se dificulta avanzar, de hecho, en este paso se rompieron dos agujas, así que decidí coser lo más lento posible y utilizar una aguja más gruesa, con esta sí pude terminar de coser la cinta, inicialmente está usando la número 14 que es la que más se usa de acuerdo al tipo de tela, pero no fue posible con esa aguja tuve que utilizar la número 18 con la cual se hizo más sencillo el proceso pero cosí lento, para evitar romper otra aguja. The first step in making the tablecloth was to remove the edges of the fabric. To do this, I used the dotted line on both sides of the fabric as a reference, and with the help of scissors, I removed the edges, guided by these dots.

El primer paso para elaborar el mantel, fue retirar los bordes de la tela, para ello tomé como referencia la línea de puntos que trae la tela a ambos lados, con ayuda de la tijera y guiándome por estos puntos retiré los bordes.
After cutting the edges, I made a hem approximately one centimeter wide, all around the perimeter of the tablecloth, and secured it with pins. This prevents the fabric from moving while sewing. I used a straight stitch to sew the hem and kept checking that the edges of the fabric were facing inwards.
Cortados los bordes, hice un dobladillo de aproximadamente un centímetro de ancho, por todo el contorno del mantel, fijé con alfileres, esto evita que se mueva la tela al coser, utilicé puntada recta para coser el dobladillo e iba verificando que los bordes de la tela quedaran hacia adentro.
The last step to finish this simple tablecloth was to glue the gold ribbon, as I mentioned at the beginning, this process was somewhat complicated, because of the glitter on the ribbon at the top, as the presser foot gets a little stuck while the sewing progresses; To make the process easier, I used a thicker needle and sewed slowly. This allowed me to continue and eventually cover the entire edge of the tablecloth with the ribbon. The corners were also more difficult, as several layers of fabric converge there, making it thicker. In some of them, I used the machine manually to make the stitches go more smoothly. Then I sewed normally, very slowly to avoid the presser foot sticking and breaking the needle. When I finished, I placed the ends of the ribbon on the back and overstitched with a straight stitch. With these three simple steps, a beautiful tablecloth is finished, perfect for decorating the living room or kitchen table. I kept this one simple because my friend only needs it to have these gold edges and to match the placemat I shared earlier.
El último paso para terminar este sencillo mantel, fue pegar la cinta dorada, como lo mencioné al principio, este proceso fue un tanto complicado, por los brillantes que tiene la cinta en la parte superior, pues el prensatelas se queda un poco atascado mientras avanza la costura; para hacer el proceso más sencillo utilicé una aguja más gruesa y pasé la costura lento, esta idea me permitió continuar y finalmente cubrir todo el contorno del mantel con la cinta, Las esquinas también tuvieron un grado de dificultad más grande, ya que allí convergen varias capas de tela y se hace más grueso, en alguna de ellas utilicé la máquina manualmente para que las costuras pasaran más ligeras, luego cosí normalmente, eso sí, muy lento para evitar que se pegara el prensatelas y romper la aguja, al terminar coloqué los extremos de la cinta en la parte de atrás y repisé con puntada recta, con estos tres sencillos pasos está terminado un hermoso mantel para la para adornar la mesa de la sala o la cocina, este lo hice sencillo ya que mi amiga solo necesita que tenga estos bordes dorados y que vaya a juego con el individual que compartí anteriormente.
