Hello creative friends
Greetings to you all in this great community , I hope you are doing great just as I am, I'm here today to share with you the cutting and sewing process of this simple shopping tote bag I made for myself from fabric, I made a tote bag few months ago for my neighbourhood shopping but it was a bit bigger and sometimes I might need to pick little things from the shops around that needed me to go with a small bag, so I decided to make a smaller bag for my little shopping, then I came up with this, the idea was gotten from the previous pouch I made, I thought of making a bag in same shape and it was really nice.
After the making of this simple tote bag, I went out with it to get some little items I needed and it serves the purpose I made it for perfectly.
It is easy, simple and very useful with just a rectangle shape on your desired fabric.
Let get started with the cutting and sewing process.
I measured 22 x 12" on the main fabric and it was used to cut out lining of same shape.
The lining was placed on the main fabric right side to right side and it was sewn together on both sides.
The seam line was placed in the middle with fabric to fabric and lining to lining, then I marked 2" on the two edges of the lining and cut it out on both sides.
On the main fabric, I measured 2" upward on a straight line and the same was repeated on the other side as I turned it over.
I folded in the 2" and made it meet the other 2" at the other side and I sew on both sides from the lining to the main fabric leaving an opening on one side of the lining where it can be turned inside out.
The opening on the two sides of the lining were sewn together just as seen below.
This is what the main fabric looks like after sewing as explained above.
It was turned inside out and the opening on the lining was sewn then I top stitched on the tip round to prevent the lining from showing at the top of the tote bag.
For the handle, I cut out 18 x 3" it was folded and sewn on both sides.
From the mid point of the bag, I marked 2" on both sides and placed the handle on it with 1.5" depth and it was sewn on both sides of the bag.
This is the final and beautiful outcome of my tote bag, I hope you like it.
