¡Saludos amigos amantes de las artes manuales! Les doy la bienvenida una vez más a mi taller Bricolaje DC, pueden sentirse como en casa. En esta oportunidad vamos a trabajar la técnica de pirograbado en foamy. Acompáñenme a descubrir una nueva forma de darle vida a nuestros trabajos de foamy.

For this technique you can use different equipment such as a pyrographer with different tips, for more professional work and with a temperature control system.

But, as my goal is to do things taking advantage of the resources I have available, I am going to use a soldering iron or soldering gun to show you this technique. The soldering iron at the nearest hardware store cost me 1.5$.

Para esta técnica se pueden utilizar diferentes equipos como un pirograbador con diferentes puntas, para trabajos más profesionales y con un sistema de control de temperatura.

Pero, como mi objetivo es hacer las cosas aprovechando los recursos que tengo disponibles, pues voy a utilizar un cautín o pistola de soldar normal para enseñarles esta técnica. El cautín en la ferretería más cercana me costó 1.5$.

One recommendation that I can give, and emphasize it, is that to apply this technique we must use a mask, to avoid any allergy due to the smell of the burnt foamy.

Una recomendación que puedo dar, y hacer énfasis en ella, es que para aplicar esta técnica debemos utilizar mascarilla, para evitar alguna alergia por el olor del foamy quemado.

The first thing to do is to find a firm base to place the soldering iron without burning the work table or anything around it. I like to use a glass jar to stand it there, so we also avoid accidents by burning ourselves.

Lo primero que debemos hacer es buscar una base firme para colocar el cautín sin que pueda quemar la mesa de trabajo ni nada alrededor. Me gusta utilizar un frasco de vidrio para pararlo allí, así evitamos también accidentes al quemarnos.

We are going to help us with a skewer stick to mark our design directly on the foamy.

In the meantime we can connect the soldering iron so that it will be very hot when we start working.

Nos vamos a ayudar con un palito de broqueta para marcar nuestro diseño directamente en el foamy.

Mientras tanto podemos conectar el cautín para que esté bien caliente al momento de comenzar a trabajar.

Pyrography helps us to improve the foamy piece in different ways:

1. marking the edge of the piece
2. Marking the division lines
3. Texturing

El pirograbado nos ayuda a mejorar la pieza de foamy de diferentes formas:

1. Marcando el borde de la pieza
2. Marcando las líneas de división
3. Texturizando

Marking the edge of the part

It consists of making a line, either straight or with the edge of the soldering iron tip, to delimit the piece.

For example, in these Christmas spheres, I wanted to make an edge with the tip of the soldering iron facing the front. To achieve this, I just press the hot soldering iron on the piece and remove it quickly to avoid burning it.

We could also do it horizontally, simulating simple or zigzag stitching.

Marcando el borde de la pieza:

Consiste en hacer una línea, ya sea recta o con el borde de la punta del cautín, para delimitar la pieza.

Ejemplo, en estas esferas navideñas, quise hacer un borde con la punta del cautín de frente. Para lograrlo nada más debo presionar el cautín caliente sobre la pieza y retirar rápidamente para evitar que se queme.

También podríamos hacerlo en horizontal, simulando la costura simple o en zigzag.

marking the division lines:

This helps us not to use black paint inside the piece to mark the divisions, the pyrography line is enough.

Example, the divisions of the snowman's head, hat and scarf.

Marcando las líneas de división:

Esto nos ayuda a no utilizar pintura de color negro dentro de la pieza para marcar las divisiones, con la línea del pirograbado es suficiente.

Ejemplo, las divisiones de la cabeza del muñeco de nieve, el sombrero y la bufanda.

Texturing:

It is simply to mark the surface of the piece to give it relief. We can use the tip of the soldering iron or one of the screws that brings to hold the tip, this I love to use it because it gives it a star shape.

An example of texturing with the screw, would be the scarf of the snowman:

Texturizado:

Simplemente es marcar la superficie de la pieza para darle relieve. Podemos usar la punta del cautín o uno de los tornillos que trae para sujetar la punta, esta me encanta usarla ya que le da forma de estrella.

Un ejemplo del texturizado con el tornillo, sería la bufanda del muñeco de nieve:

If we want to use foamy to make, for example, a pencil holder and we want to give it a different finish, we can mark the piece with the pyrographer and it would look like this:

Si queremos usar foamy para hacer, ejemplo, un Portalápices y queremos darle un acabado diferente podemos marcar la pieza con el pirograbador y quedaría así:

Note the zigzag edges / Fíjense en los bordes de zigzag

For the Christmas tree, for example, we can make the branches.

Para el árbol de navidad, por ejemplo, podemos hacer las ramas.
