Restoring an antique reliquary [Eng-Esp]

Greetings, fellow craft lovers! Welcome once again to my workshop Hive account@bricolajedc. Today, I’d like to take you on a tour of my workshop while I restore a reliquary that has been in my family for a long time. Join me, and I’ll show you my creative process.

This reliquary has been part of my family’s collection for years. The photographs inside have been changed over time, and right now it was empty. I saw a beautiful piece that needed restoration, so I didn’t hesitate to get to work.

Les doy la bienvenida una vez más a mi taller Hive account@bricolajedc, en esta oportunidad les invito en un recorrido por mi taller mientras restauro un relicario perteneciente a mi familia desde hace mucho tiempo. Acompáñenme y les muestro mi proceso creativo.

Desde hace años este relicario ha formado prte de las posesiones de mi familia. Han cambiado las fotografías de su interior y en este momento se encontraba vacío. Pude ver una pieza hermosa que necesitaba restauración, así que no dude en poner manos a la obra.

_{Restaurando un antiguo relicario}

I printed the photos in 4-by-6-centimeter size, or what is commonly known as ID photo size. In addition to the photos, I also needed black silhouette stickers, fine-grain glitter (I chose purple), UV resin, and a UV lamp.

To get the exact shape of the space for the photos inside the locket, I took a piece of white cardstock and placed it inside the locket. Using a modeling tool and then my hands, I carefully creased the shape of the heart on the inside.

Imprimí las fotos en tamaño 4 centímetros por 6 centímetros,o lo que sería tamaño carnet. Además de las fotografías, también necesitaba stickers en silueta color negro, escarcha de grano fino de la que escogí color violeta, resina UV y la lámpara UV.

Para tomar la forma exacta del espacio par alas fotos que tienen el relicario,lo que hice fue tomar un trozo de cartulina blanca y colocarlo dentro del relicario. Con ayuda de una esteca y luego con mis manos, fui marcando bien con pliegues la forma del corazón del interior.

Then I cut the photos into heart shapes.

I picked out some flower and letter stickers to place on each photo.

Luego recorté las fotografías de la misma forma del corazón.

Seleccioné unos stickers de flores y letras para colocar en cada fotografía.

I have these stickers with raised edges that I love for working with resin. It's a small sheet with different sizes and shapes that I picked up at the store.

Tengo estos stickers con borde en alto relieve que me encantan para trabajar con resina. Es una pequeña lámina de diferentes tamaños y formas que conseguí en la tienda.

Once I had positioned the stickers, I placed clear adhesive tape over the photos to protect the paper from the moisture in the resin.

Una vez ubicados los stickers, coloqué cinta adhesiva transparente sobre las fotos para proteger el papel de la humedad de la resina.

I placed each piece into the spaces in the photos one by one and covered them with a thin layer of resin. I cured them under the lamp for 5 minutes to make sure they were completely dry, and then I applied the glitter.

En cada uno de los espacios de las fotos introduje una por una y cubrí con una fina capa de resina. Pasé por la lámpara durante 5 minutos para que quedara bien seco y procedí a colocar la escarcha.

I applied a coat of resin and then put it back under the lamp for another 5 minutes. I repeated the entire process with the photo on the other side.

Apliqué una capa de resina y luego de nuevo a la lámpara por 5 minutos más. Repetí todo el proceso con la fotografía del otro lado.

I replaced the silver-colored ring on the locket with a new one I made using hypoallergenic #18 wire to prevent it from discoloring over time.

Once the resin had dried completely, the restored locket was ready.

Sustituí la argolla de color plateado del relicario por una argolla que hice nueva con alambre #18 hipoalergénico para evitar que cambie de color xon el tiempo.

Ya una vez que la resina se secó por completo quedó listo el relicario restaurado.

Working on this project was very exciting and moving for me; it involved restoring an object that has been in my family for so long, and this time, with photos of my children, it was wonderful. I hope it will be something that lasts for many more generations to come.

Para mi trabajar en este proyecto fue muy emocionante y emotivo, se tratava de restaurar un objeto que ha estado tanto tiempo en mi familia y esta vez cpn fotografías de mis hijos fue maravilloso. Espero que sea algo que perdure en el tiempo por algunas generaciones más.
