Ayer aproveché en reponer mi stock de materiales para crear, algunos de ellos se me habían terminado, cartulinas, libretas, lapiceros y marcadores, hoy me llevé una grata sorpresa, abrieron una nueva tienda en el centro de la localidad y la atención es estupenda. Es una papelería - quincallería que tiene de todo.
Llevo semanas buscando unos marcadores que pintan perfectamente cualquier superficie pero no son los marcadores que conocemos de toda la vida, son una nueva generación, son marcadores de pinturas acrílicas.
Quiero comenzar a dibujar en lienzos negros, siempre quise, generalmente consumo videos de artistas pintando en cartulinas negras o de colores fuertes. Pero no sabía cómo pedir el tipo de marcador que buscaba, la chica de la tienda amablemente me atendió y me dio toda la información, no dudé en comprarlos a pesar que son algo costosos. Espero sean duraderos ya que no conozco de marcas.

Yesterday I took the opportunity to restock my supplies for crafting; I’d run out of some things – card, notebooks, pens and markers. Today I was pleasantly surprised: a new shop has opened in the town centre and the service is brilliant. It’s a stationery and haberdashery shop that has everything.
I’ve been looking for weeks for some markers that work perfectly on any surface, but they aren’t the markers we’ve always known; they’re a new generation – acrylic paint markers.
I want to start drawing on black canvases; I’ve always wanted to. I often watch videos of artists painting on black or brightly coloured card. But I didn’t know how to ask for the type of marker I was looking for. The girl in the shop was very helpful and gave me all the information I needed. I didn’t hesitate to buy them, even though they’re a bit pricey. I hope they’ll last, as I’m not familiar with the brands.

Compré cartulinas negras grandes, ahorro dinero cortándolas, pues cada cartulina de color negro tamaño carta tiene un costo de 0.4$ sin embargo la cartulina grande tiene un costo de 0.8$ y saco 5 piezas de ella.
Mi intención es hacer una libreta de arte. Luego de cortar las piezas debo enderezarlas pues como venían en un rollo quedaron con la forma. Puedo plancharlas o colocarles peso sobre ellas para que regresen a su estado plano. Tomo la medida de un hoja tamaño carta y corto las piezas.

I bought some large sheets of black card; I save money by cutting them myself, as each letter-sized sheet of black card costs $0.40, whereas a large sheet costs $0.80 and I can get five pieces out of it.
My plan is to make an art notebook. After cutting the pieces, I need to straighten them out, as they were rolled up and have retained that shape. I can iron them or place weights on top of them to flatten them out. I measure a letter-sized sheet and cut the pieces.

Luego de cortar las piezas coloco unas pinzas para que vaya tomando forma.
Busco mi encuadernadora con el anillo de encuadernación y una tapa plástica de color negro, es una pena no se vea bien en la imagen el detalle de la tapa tiene aspecto de cuero con toda su textura.
Pongo todas las piezas organizadas para proceder a abrir los orificios por donde pasarán los aros.

After cutting the pieces, I secure them with clips to help them take shape.
I fetch my binding machine with the binding ring and a black plastic cover; it’s a shame the detail of the cover isn’t clear in the photo – it has a leather-like appearance with all its texture.
I lay out all the pieces neatly so I can start punching the holes through which the rings will pass.

Con la encuadernadora perforo las tapas y las cartulinas negras.
Luego coloco el anillo de encuadernación en la parte superior y abro.
Seguidamente introduzco por cada orificio en orden la primera tapa y luego cada cartulina y finalmente la tapa.
Cierro el anillo de encuadernar y con ello obtengo mi cuaderno de arte.
Siempre es una alegría comprar insumos, ir a una tienda y encontrar más de lo que buscas.

I use the binding machine to punch holes in the covers and the black cardstock.
Then I place the binding ring at the top and open it.
Next, I thread the first cover through each hole in order, followed by each piece of cardstock, and finally the cover.
I close the binding ring and there you have it: my art notebook.
It’s always a joy to buy supplies, go to a shop and find more than you’re looking for.
