Hello dear friends of Hive DIY, I hope you're all doing well. Today, at the start of this week, I want to share my latest painting with you. This past weekend, I had a movie marathon, and honestly, I'm getting tired of current films. Fortunately, there are so many classics that are always a welcome addition to a weekend. I was watching some martial arts movies and came across the gem from the great Bruce Lee: Enter the Dragon, by far his most famous film and the one that earned martial arts cinema international respect. It has fantastic action and especially well-executed choreography, and you can't expect anything less from the great Bruce Lee. I chose an image from the final battle, where Bruce Lee faces the final boss and is injured. I made this portrait in a small version using a banknote as my canvas and acrylic paints. Below, I'll show you step by step how I did it. Let's begin!
Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy, espero que se encuentren muy bien, hoy en este inicio de semana quiero compartir con ustedes mi última pintura, en este fin de semana estuve en un maratón de películas, y es que el cine actual realmente ya me fastidia, afortunadamente existen muchos clásicos los cuales siempre acompañan un fin de semana. Estuve viendo algunas películas de artes marciales y me encontré con la joya del gran Bruce Lee : Operación Dragón, por lejos su película más conocida y con la cual el cine de artes marciales había ganado respeto internacional. Tiene una buenísima acción y especialmente coreografías muy bien logradas, y no se puede esperar menos del gran Bruce Lee. Escogí una imagen de la batalla final, donde Bruce Lee se enfrenta al jefe final donde sale herido, este retrato lo hice en una versión pequeña utilizando como lienzo un billete y las pinturas acrílicas. I started by choosing a banknote with cool colors, since my goal was to make Bruce Lee's face stand out, so the background always plays a big role, either for or against me. After that, I began painting the banknote with white paint to cover the previous image and turn that area into a blank canvas. Once I had that, I started drawing all the details of Bruce Lee's face, piece by piece, until I had the majority of it well defined.
Comencé eligiendo un billete que tenga colores fríos, ya que mi objetivo es resaltar muy bien el rostro de Bruce Lee, así que el fondo siempre juega mucho a favor o en contra. Luego de eso comienzo a pintar el billete con pintura blanca para tapar la figura que estaba antes y convertir esa parte en un lienzo. Después de que haya sacado comienzo a dibujar todos los detalles del rostro de Bruce Lee parte por parte hasta tener la mayor parte bien definida.
Once the sketch was complete, I began mixing acrylic paints to create the base for the skin of the face. I used three different layers throughout the entire drawing. I started painting the face with a very light brown color, clearly aiming to leave many areas light while darkening others, especially in the center of the face around both eyes. I used a fine, very soft brush to allow the paint to flow smoothly.
Una vez que ya el boceto estuviera completado comencé a mezclar las pinturas acrílicas para hacer la base para la piel del rostro, en todo el dibujo utilicé 3 capas diferentes. Comencé a pintar el rostro con un color café muy claro con clara tendencia a dejar muchas partes del rostro de color claro y a la vez oscurecer otros, especialmente en el centro del rostro en ambos ojos. Par pintar utilicé un pincel fino y muy suave para que la pintura se pueda desplazar muy bien.
For the second layer of skin, I begin adding shadows, all depending on the direction of the light and the reflections. So, for example, I do the shadows that fall under the chin and cover the chest; let's not forget that Bruce Lee was in the middle of a fight here. After that, I started adding white paint to the forehead area since he was sweating, and that way I could achieve that wet effect. At the same time, I outline the entire area around the eyes and nose.
Para la segunda capa de la piel comienzo a agregar sombras, todo dependiendo de la dirección de la luz y los reflejos. así que por ejemplo hago las sombras que vienen debajo de la barbilla y que cubre el pecho, no olvidemos que a quí Bruce Lee estaba en medio de un combate. Luego de eso comencé agregar pintura blanca en la zona de la frente ya que se encontraba transpirando y así s epodía conseguir ese efecto de humedad, al mismo tiempo voy delinieando toda la zona de los ojos y la nariz.
Next, I begin outlining the eye shadows, and before using black, I use brown mixed with other colors to darken them. For example, for the eyebrows, I mixed it with dark blue to create those shadows. Then I outlined the lips, making that gesture Bruce Lee used in his fights, where he made sounds like a cat.
Seguidamente comienzo a delinear las sombras en los ojos, y antes de utilizar el color negro lo que hago e susar el color cafe mezclado con otros para logar oscurecer, por ejemplo, para las cejas mezclé con un azul oscuro y así pude hacer esas sombras. Luego fui delineando los labios haciendo ese gesto que Bruce Lee hacía en sus combates donde hacía sonidos como un gato.
Then I started painting the hair, which was a deep black but with clear highlights at the top. So I painted the hair with a fine brush and quick strokes, and then with slightly lighter mixes I painted the lighter areas. Next, I finished parts of the face, especially the two wounds on either side. There's always a part of my work that I like and that catches my attention, and in this case, it was those bloodstains running down her cheeks, so I painted them little by little with the finest brush of all.
Después comienzo a pintar el cabello, el cual era de un negro intenso pero con claros reflejos de luz en la parte superior, así que vopy pintando el cabello con un pincel fino y pinceladas rápidas y despues con mezclas un poco más claras voy pintando las partes claras. Seguidamente terminé haciendo partes del rostro, especialmete dos heridas que tienes en ambos lados del rostro, siempre hay una parte de mi trabajo que me gusta y llama mi atención, y en este caso fueron esas manchas de sangre corriendo por sus mejillas, así que los hice poco a poco con el pincel más fino de todos.

Then I started the whole process again from the beginning to refine the details and give the drawing more volume. What do you think of the result? I think the portrait turned out very well, a fitting tribute to the martial arts legend. Bruce Lee wasn't just an actor; he was a true master of Kung Fu, having invented his own style based on a philosophy he himself proposed, studied, and perfected. "Be water, my friend"—that was his philosophy, reflecting water's ability to adapt to any environment. I hope you liked it. That's all for now. Goodbye!
Luego comencé de nuevo todo el proceso desde el principio para finar los detalles y lograr que el dibujo tuviera más volumen. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? Creo que quedó muy bien el retrato, un buen homenaje a la leyenda de las artes marciales. Bruce Lee no solo fue actor, sino que fue un auténtico maestro del Kung Fu, pues inventó un estilo propio que seguía una filosofía que el mismo propuso, estudió y perfeccionó. "Be water my friend" esa era su filosofía, la capacidad que tiene el agua de adaptarse a todos los entornos. Espero que les haya gustado, por ahora ha sido todo, me despido!
