The other day I had the opportunity to see the Pinocchio movie with my little cousin, who had wanted to see it for a long time. I really enjoyed watching the movie with her, as I wouldn't have dared to watch it on my own.
Although it was not a movie that caught my attention, we had a good time with my cousin and as a souvenir of that moment, as a gift for her, I made her this figurine of Jiminy Cricket. I share with you the step by step of the figurine below, I hope you enjoy the creative process.
When you see this type of figure you might think that they are easy to make, but this is not always the case. Sometimes the most basic shapes are the most difficult to capture in this type of figures.
See for example the case of this character. Pepe the cricket, in the movie, would be like Pinocchio's conscience, who will give him advice throughout the movie.

If we start detailing the character, it has a simple design, but as I said, these simple shapes also have their complexity. So to be sure I could do it, I started with the head. Here you can see a couple of pictures of the process:

After I did what for me was the most difficult part, I continued with the part I usually start with, the lower area.
The pants were a beige color, but I didn't have any, so I used a light purple, which also matches the other colors of the suit.

As you can see, I used a color similar to vinotint, a little lighter and with a shade similar to magenta. In the image below you can see the vest already finished, with that sort of tie that shows the cricket on the neck.
Although in the reference image it is much more detailed, at this size it is not easy to do so much detail.
Once the three main pieces, the legs, the torso and the head, are finished, it is time to join them one on top of the other.
Below, on the left, you can see the three separate pieces. On the right, on the other hand, are the joined pieces, with the collar of the shirt already in place.

The figurine is wearing a blue jacket, so to make it I flattened the plasticine and stretched it as much as I could, as if it were a piece of cloth.
In the same way, again, as if it were a piece of cloth, I cut it into the shape you can see in the image on the left, then I covered the torso of the cricket and it was as shown in the image on the right:

Time to make the rest of the body, which for me are simple parts to make and can be completed with basic shapes, such as canes, tortillas, cylinders and spheres.
To begin with, there is the hat. It all starts with a sphere, this sphere becomes a cylinder and another sphere is made to become a tortilla. Then these two pieces are joined together and the hat is ready.

For the arms, two canes are made, one long and two smaller ones. Also in the image on the left you can see the different stages of the creative process of the hands.
On the other hand, on the right are the stages of the creative process of the umbrella. Another characteristic element of the character.

Below you can see all these elements once they are finished.
The following is the logical thing to do, simply assemble each part, using wooden sticks for support, and put them in place. In the image on the left you can see how the arm of the figure with the umbrella looks like, on the right you can see the hat in place.

The last thing I did was the shoes. I did it in a similar way to the reference image, but with a more cartoonish style, like that of the whole figure. It's not as stylized as in the film, but I did take that style as a reference.
Thus was finished the figurine of this iconic character in the history of Pinocchio. Here are some pictures of the final result:
Well folks, that's it. Sometimes you find inspiration where you least expect it. In my case I found inspiration for this figurine in a movie that I didn't feel like watching, but thanks to my cousin I saw it and we had a great time.

El otro día tuve la oportunidad de ver la película de Pinocho con mi pequeña prima, quien quería verla desde hace tiempo. La verdad disfruté mucho ver la película con ella, ya que yo solo no me habría animado a verla.
Aunque no era una película que me llamase la atención, con mi prima pasamos un buen rato y como manera de recuerdo de ese momento, para regalarsela a ella, le hice esta figurita de Pepe el grillo o Jiminy Cricket en su versión en inglés. Les comparto el paso a paso de la figurita más abajo, espero que disfruten del proceso creativo.
Cuando uno ve este tipo de figura podría pensar que son fáciles de hacer, pero no siempre es así. A veces las formas más básicas son las más difíciles de plasmar en este tipo de figuras.
Vean por ejemplo el caso de este personaje. Pepe el grillo, en la película, vendría a ser como la conciencia de Pinocho, que le dará consejos a lo largo de la película.

Si nos ponemos a detallar al personaje, tiene un diseño simple, pero como dije, estas formas simples también tienen su complejidad. Así que para estar seguro de que podría hacerlo, comencé por la cabeza. Aquí pueden ver un par de fotos del proceso:

Ya después que hice lo que para mi era la parte más difícil, continué con la parte con la que habitualmente comienzo, la zona inferior.
Los pantalones eran de un color beige, pero no tenía así que usé un morado claro, que también combina con los otros c.olores del traje

Como pueden ver, usé un color similar al vinotinto, un poco más claro y con tonalidad similar al magenta. En la imagen de abajo pueden ver el chaleco ya terminado, con esa suerte de corbata que luce el grillo en el cuello.
Aunque en la imagen referencial es mucho más detallada, a este tamaño no es fácil hacer tanto detalle.
Una vez terminadas las tres piezas principales, las piernas, el torso y la cabeza, es turno de unirlas una encima de la otra.
A continuación, a la izquierda, pueden ver las tres piezas separadas. A la derecha, por otra parte, estan las piezas unidas, con el cuello de la camisa ya puesto en su lugar.

La figurita lleva una chaqueta azul, así que para hacerlo aplasté plastilina y la etiré lo más que pude, como si fuese un trozo de tela.
De la misma forma, de nuevo, como si fuese un trozo de tela, lo corté hasta darle la forma que se ve en la imagen de la izquierda, luego cubrí el torso del grillo y quedó como se ve en la imagen de la derecha:

Hora de hacer el resto del cuerpo, lo que para mi son partes sencillas de hacer y se pueden completar con formas básicas, como bastones, tortillas, cilindros y esferas.
Para comenzar, está el sombrero. Todo comienza con una esfera, esta esfera se convierte en un cilindro y se hace otra esfera para convertirla en tortilla. Luego estas dos piezas se unen y listo está listo el sombrero.

Para los brazos se hacen dos bastones, unos largos y dos más pequeños. También en la imagen de la izquierda pueden ver las distintas etapas del proceso creativo de las manos.
Por otra parte, a la derecha estan las etapas del proceso creativo del paráguas. Otro elemento característico del personaje.

A continuación pueden ver todos estos elementos una vez terminados.
Lo siguiente es lo lógico, simplemente ensamblar cada parte, haciendo uso de palillos de madera para soporte, y colocarlos en su lugar. En la imagen de la izquierda se observa cómo quedó el brazo de la figura con el paráguas, a la derecha pueden ver el sombrero en su lugar.

Lo último que hice fueron los zapatos. Lo hice de forma parecida a la imagen referencial, pero con un estilo más caricaturésco, como el de toda la figura. No es tan estilizado como en la película, pero sí tomé como referencia a ese estilo.
De esta manera quedó terminada la figurita de este personaje icónico en la historia de Pinocho. A continuación les dejo una serie de fotografías del resultado final:
Bien amigos, esto ha sido todo. A veces uno encuentra inspiración en donde menos se lo espera. En mi caso encontré inspiración para esta figura en una película que no tenía demasiados ánimos para ver, pero gracias a mi prima la vi y la verdad pasamos un rato genial.
