Hello dear creative Hivers, I hope you are all having a good day, mine just got more interesting as I finally put the finishing touches to the pretty dress I'm making, it's a second dress for an adorable little one who will be clocking a year old on the 6th of June, which also happens to be the Muslims Eid-ul-Adh celebration.
I already shared the making process of the first dress I made which was used to celebrate her birthday last Sunday in church as her mum is a Christian, while the second celebration will be taking place on Friday, blending with the Muslim celebration and holiday as her dad is a Muslim, what a lucky girl she is to experience the best of both worlds.
A family like theirs inspires us and teaches us that we can all live in peace irrespective of our religion, country, or ethnic group. The fabric used for the making of this dress is a soft crepe fabric, and she will be adorning the same fabric with her cousins as a symbol of unity in respect to the celebration ahead.
Given the honor of styling her, I knew her dress had to be Muslim-inspired, I love Muslim-inspired fashion even though I'm a Christian as they are known for their modest dressing and beautiful look.
After little thought and considering the amount of fabric I had, I decided on making her a Caribbean dress with funnel sleeves, and it came out as beautiful as I imagined, and also took me about 3-4 hours to get this dress completed, as I had to attend to other activities while making the dress.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process.
Materials Used
- Soft crepe fabric
- Zipper
- Matching colored thread
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by drafting and cutting out the upper basic bodice part of the dress
I also cut out the side belts which I folded and sewed both ends before joining them.
- Next, I joined the upper bodice pattern by the shoulders before turning the neckline and joined the sides as well.
- For the lower part of the dress, I cut out two long-length materials, the wider one will be gathered and joined to the waist area, while the shorter one which is longer in width compared to the long length, was gathered and joined to it.
- Next, I joined the upper bodice to lifer gathered part of the dress
*Continuing, I drafted and cut out the basic sleeve and also doubled the round sleeve measurement to get the sleeve base which was gathered and joined to the basic sleeve.
- Finally, I sewed both sleeves to the armhole areas of the dress and also sewed the zipper to the back, and that completes the making process of Elizabeth's dress also known as Amira, which is her Muslim name.
The final result is stunning, I can't wait to see her adorn in this pretty dress with her hijab on, on Friday, yeah, I'm anticipating the Muslim celebration as well.
