Posing with my cat Gamora - digital drawing práctica [Esp-Eng]

Hace poco descargué en mi teléfono una aplicación que imita fotos de cámaras específicas de los 2000. Estas fotos quedan con una apariencia particular que me gusta. Mientras la probaba, me tomé una foto con mi gatita Gamora y esta foto quedó simplemente genial; se convirtió en una de mis favoritas y quise recrearla un poco en dibujo digital, obviamente con un estilo muy, muy sencillo.

​Así que, pensando en esto, les comparto el proceso de este dibujo hecho de una manera bastante sencilla y cuyo resultado me gustó. La verdad es que lo que principalmente buscaba era practicar un poco más el dibujo digital, últimamente me estoy esforzando por dedicarle más tiempo para poder mejorar y sé que eso solamente lo lograré teniendo práctica y más práctica, y por supuesto, aprendiendo nuevas formas y técnicas.

​En este caso, lo que hice fue insertar en una de las capas de la aplicación la foto que me había tomado con Gamora. Luego de hacer esto, simplemente comencé a bordearla con un lápiz que siempre utilizo para hacer todos mis dibujos, llamado "lápiz duro", así tal cual. Con este hice el dibujo lineal, es decir, simplemente bordeé el dibujo por todos sus alrededores hasta que quedó la silueta de Gamora y mía.

I recently downloaded an app on my phone that mimics photos from specific cameras from the 2000s. These photos have a particular look that I like. While I was trying it out, I took a photo with my cat Gamora, and it turned out great; it became one of my favorites, and I wanted to recreate it a little in digital drawing, obviously with a very, very simple style.

So, with that in mind, I'm sharing the process of this drawing, which was done in a fairly simple way and whose result I liked. The truth is that what I was mainly looking for was to practice digital drawing a little more. Lately, I've been trying to devote more time to it in order to improve, and I know that I'll only achieve that by practicing and practicing some more, and of course, by learning new forms and techniques.

In this case, what I did was insert the photo I had taken with Gamora into one of the layers of the application. After doing this, I simply began to outline it with a pencil that I always use for all my drawings, called a "hard pencil," just like that. With this, I made the line drawing, that is, I simply outlined the drawing all around it until the silhouette of Gamora and me remained.

​Me emocioné mucho en esta parte porque me encanta el arte minimalista y noté que así podría dibujarlo, obviamente adaptándolo un poco mejor y dedicando más tiempo a las líneas y su grosor. Pero como mi pensar no era hacer simplemente un dibujo minimalista, sino más que nada practicar y a la vez sacar un dibujo sencillo, comencé a rellenarlo paso a paso.

​Comencé por los colores de Gamora; ella es una gata blanca con tonos cafés y color crema en algunas zonas. Aunque no di con el tono exacto, siento que lo igualé un poco. Para que el blanco no se viera tan intenso y brillante, tomé un tono un poco gris para las zonas blancas de mi gatita, y su pata, orejas y antifaz los pinté de un tono café claro, para luego agregar las zonas más oscuras de su pelaje, como parte de su pata, lagrimal y orejas.

​La otra parte del dibujo, que era yo, fue compleja. Tomé una herramienta que da la ilusión de poros en la piel y tomé un tono similar al de mi piel; este lo apliqué por todo el rostro y subí un tono más para agregar un poquito de sombra y un tono menos para agregar un poquito de luz. Si soy muy sincera, no me encantó cómo quedó porque obviamente le faltó detalle, pero como se trata de un dibujo sencillo, pues lo dejé de esa manera.

I was very excited about this part because I love minimalist art, and I realized that I could draw it that way, obviously adapting it a little better and spending more time on the lines and their thickness. But since my intention was not simply to make a minimalist drawing, but rather to practice and at the same time produce a simple drawing, I began to fill it in step by step.

I started with Gamora's colors; she is a white cat with brown and cream tones in some areas. Although I didn't get the exact shade, I feel like I matched it a little. So that the white wouldn't look so intense and bright, I used a slightly gray tone for the white areas of my kitten, and I painted her paw, ears, and mask a light brown tone, then added the darker areas of her fur, such as part of her paw, tear duct, and ears.

The other part of the drawing, which was me, was complex. I used a tool that gives the illusion of pores on the skin and chose a shade similar to my skin tone. I applied this all over my face and went up one shade to add a little shadow and down one shade to add a little light. To be honest, I didn't love how it turned out because it obviously lacked detail, but since it's a simple drawing, I left it that way.

​El cabello, por su parte, fue complejo esta vez porque quise probar con una textura que incluía la app, pero la verdad no me encantó. Sin embargo, no quise borrarlo, a fin de cuentas es práctica y aprendizaje y la verdad pensé que podría arreglarlo. Esta textura hacía parecer el cabello bastante despeinado y con frizz, y aunque mi cabello en la foto salía despeinado y con frizz, no se parecía tanto al mío.

​Intenté arreglarlo dándole más detalle con una brocha y poniendo un poco de luz en el cabello para que se notara el brillo del mismo. Pero al final no quedó tan detallado como me hubiese gustado, creo que el cabello siempre se me va a dificultar y debo seguir practicando mucho más. Luego pasé a pintar los ojos. Comencé con los de Gamora, que son de un tono de azul bastante claro y bonito, y los míos, que son marrón oscuro. Luego pasé a mis cejas, hice algunos vellos con lápiz y, de resto, agregué algo de color plano para dar volumen.

​Después de esto, di color a mis labios, también traté de darles profundidad y brillo, y esto lo hice con un tono más oscuro para la sombra y varios tonos más claros para el brillo. Después pasé de nuevo a los ojos, con un poco de gris claro y color crema pinté algunas líneas para que dieran el efecto de brillo. Y como último detalle, pinté los lentes de negro y puse un poco de amarillo para dar la ilusión de que es un color dorado.

The hair, on the other hand, was complicated this time because I wanted to try a texture that was included in the app, but I didn't really like it. However, I didn't want to delete it because, at the end of the day, it's practice and learning, and I thought I could fix it. This texture made the hair look quite messy and frizzy, and although my hair in the photo was messy and frizzy, it didn't look that much like mine.

I tried to fix it by adding more detail with a brush and putting a little light on the hair to make it shine. But in the end, it wasn't as detailed as I would have liked. I think hair will always be difficult for me, and I need to keep practicing a lot more. Then I moved on to painting the eyes. I started with Gamora's, which are a very light and pretty shade of blue, and mine, which are dark brown. Then I moved on to my eyebrows, drew some hairs with a pencil, and added some flat color to give them volume.

After that, I colored my lips, also trying to give them depth and shine, and I did this with a darker shade for the shadow and several lighter shades for the shine. Then I went back to the eyes, using a little light gray and cream color to paint some lines to give the effect of shine. And as a final detail, I painted the lenses black and added a little yellow to give the illusion of a golden color.

​Para finalizar, como sentí que el dibujo se veía muy simple y sin color, utilicé uno de los colores que, desde mi punto de vista, tiene más vida. El naranja. Este lo usé de fondo y listo, ya había terminado. Este dibujo siento que tuvo bastantes detalles porque se trata de un dibujo que traté de igualar a una foto y siento que eso es complicado. Aun así, lo tomo como enseñanza y práctica con el fin de ir mejorando. Si tienen alguna sugerencia, me encantará leerla.

Finally, as I felt that the drawing looked too simple and lacked color, I used one of the colors that, in my opinion, has the most life. Orange. I used it as the background, and that was it—I was done. I feel like this drawing had quite a few details because I tried to make it look like a photo, which I think is complicated.
