Hello friends, good evening!
Dear friends of DIY community, welcome to my new blog. I am Mita, and once again I am here to share my DIY work with you. Today I made a hand-painted dress for my mother.
I created a simple yet very beautiful dress on a light purple fabric with small floral designs. I often do this kind of hand-painting work, which I have shared with you before as well.
My dear friends, I hope you are all doing very well. As the month of Ramadan is about to begin, it becomes difficult to do any extra work during that time. Ramadan Mubarak to everyone. So, I decided to finish this hand-painted dress before Ramadan. I really wanted to gift my mother a hand-painted dress because she loves simple designs. She asked me to paint small flowers without any leaves. So, I planned to create small white and purple flowers as a combination.
I bought original Bexiboyel fabric from the market at 120 taka per yard. In total, I used three and a half yards of fabric. I had the dress stitched by my grandmother because she is very skilled in sewing and does her work very neatly. After the dress was stitched, I started the hand-painting process. I felt that small flowers would look perfect on this light-colored fabric.
I didn’t have purple paint, but since I am an artist, I know how to mix colors. So, I mixed red and blue to create a deep purple shade. Then I added white to make lighter and darker tones.
For hand painting, I needed a large frame. Anyone who does hand-painting must have these tools. The frame helps to keep the fabric tight and makes painting easier.
First, I lightly sketched the design with a pencil where I wanted to paint. Then I fixed the fabric tightly onto the frame.
Using a zero-size brush, I painted small flowers with white paint. After that, I added purple shading and shaped each flower into a five-petal design. To make the design look fuller and more beautiful, I added small dots between the flowers.
While I was painting, I kept asking my mother how it looked. She really liked it and was very excited to see the final result and to try it on. Since I was making it for my mother, I worked very carefully and with love.
First, I completed the lower part of the dress. Then I made two lines in the middle area and completed those as well. Because the design had many small flowers, it required patience. It took me about four days to complete the entire dress, working around three hours each day.
After that, I finished the neckline area. Since the dress was already stitched, it was difficult to fit the sleeves into the frame. So, I carefully opened the lower seam of the sleeves, placed the fabric on the frame, completed the painting, and then stitched the sleeves again. When the dress is stitched, it is easier for me to understand the placement of the design, especially around the collar area. In my opinion, hand painting should be done after the dress is fully stitched, whereas thread work is better done before stitching.
After completing the painting, I turned the dress inside out and dried it in the sun for two days, about two hours each day, so that the color would set properly. I used acrylic paint that is suitable for fabric design, so there is no chance of the color washing off.
I hope you liked the dress and my work. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments.
That’s all for today. Thank you everyone!
