Es una niña muy coqueta y adora los vestidos. De hecho, no le gusta usar otros tipos de ropa. Dice que se siente cómoda con ellos. El clima en nuestro país suele ser muy caluroso y usar vestidos lo hace más llevadero. Así que decidí hacerle uno que le resultara confortable y fresco.
Hace unos años su mamá me regaló un pareo, forma en la que se le conoce aquí en Cuba a esa versátil prenda de vestir que se usa sobre el traje de baño. Por cierto, en otros países suele tener otros nombres. En Brazil se llama canga, en Bali sarong, lavalava en Samayoa y en Papua Nueva Guinea lap-lap¡Cuántos nombres!
Por motivos que no recuerdo mi pareo terminó en una gaveta olvidado. Quizás estaba esperando pacientemente su segunda oportunidad. Amo reutilizar y el momento adecuado había llegado para esta pieza.
El modelo que escogí lleva un corte a la cintura, espalda al descubierto y anudado al cuello. Un diseño muy veraniego.

Hello my creative people! We recently celebrated the fifth birthday of one of my nieces. I wanted to give her something made by me that she at her young age could appreciate.
She is a very flirty little girl and loves dresses. In fact, she doesn't like to wear other types of clothes. She says she feels comfortable wearing them. The weather in our country is usually very hot and wearing dresses makes it more bearable. So I decided to make her one that would be comfortable and cool for her.
A few years ago her mother gave me a pareo, the name given here in Cuba to that versatile garment worn over a bathing suit. By the way, in other countries it usually has other names. In Brazil it is called canga, in Bali sarong, lavalava in Samoa and in Papua New Guinea lap-lap. So many names!
For reasons I can't remember my pareo ended up in a drawer forgotten. Perhaps they was patiently waiting for their second chance. I love to reuse and the right time had come for this piece.
The model I chose has a cut at the waist, open back and knotted at the neck. A very summery design.
Necesitaremos:
- Un pedazo de tela suficiente, preferiblemente algodón o rayón (mi pareo es de rayón y mide 1,50 x 0,75m)
- Molde o una pieza de ropa que sirva de muestra (fue lo que utilicé en este caso)
- Hilo del color adecuado (anaranjado)
- Varilla para votar el bies (usé un palillo de brocheta)
- Elástico (10 cm)
- Máquina de coser
We will need:
- A sufficient piece of fabric, preferably cotton or rayon (my sarong is rayon and measures 1.50 x 0.75 m)
- Mold or a piece of clothing to serve as a sample (that's what I used in this case)
- Thread of the right color (orange)
- Stick to vote the bias binding (I used a skewer stick)
- Elastic (10 cm)
- Sewing machine
Lo primero que haremos es cortar las piezas de la parte superior, la inferior y los bieses necesarios.
The first thing we will do is cut the pieces for the top, the bottom and the bias binding needed.
Procedemos a colocar el bies en cada lugar de la parte superior y posteriormente viramos al derecho cada uno para formar los tirantes que se anudarán detrás del cuello. Así quedará lista la parte de arriba.
We proceed to place the bias binding in each place of the upper part and then we turn each one to the right to form the straps that will be knotted behind the neck. This way the top part will be ready.
Acto seguido cosemos la parte delantera y trasera del inferior de la pieza enfrentando los lados derechos de nuestra tela. Rematamos los bordes con una costura en zigzag para que no se deshilache. Así queda preparada para unir.
Then we sew the front and back of the bottom of the piece facing the right sides of our fabric. We finish off the edges with a zigzag seam so that it does not fray. This way it is ready to join.
Con ambas partes listas, marcamos los centros. Unimos cosiendo desde el centro delantero hacia atrás para que nos quede parejo. Veremos qué en la parte posterior queda un espacio. Ahí pondremos el pedazo de elástico para asegurar el ajuste la pieza al cuerpo.
With both parts ready, we mark the centers. We sew together from the front center to the back so that it is even. We will see that in the back there is a space left. There we will put the piece of elastic to ensure the fit of the piece to the body.
Solo queda hacer el dobladillo y estará finalizada.
The only thing left to do is to hem it and it will be finished.
