Hello Hive
Happy weekend to my beloved friends of the community. I'm happy to stop by and share with you the creative process of how I have cut and sewn this flowery dress for my best friend. Yesterday was one of the days that I was forced to stay at home and take some quality time after all the events of the day prior to yesterday.
It is a healthy habit to emulate and practice if we can take time to rest every now and then. Leisure times are necessary for us to rest our bodies and all the stress that can counter our productivity and creativity.
I have recently observed that I often make a lot of mistakes when sewing under exhaustion. Whenever I'm tired, depressed, or frustrated, I try as much as possible to stay away from working with fabrics so that I don't end up making mistakes while cutting people's clothes. Some mistakes are not repairable and can lead to total damage of fabric beyond use.
Having had enough quality rest, I went to my machine to see if I could sew myself a pouch, which I eventually did here. It was necessary that I do this as I had lost my credit card the previous day as a result of not having a pouch to hold such vital items. This caused me a lot of headaches trying to retrieve my details and to block the missing card.
While I was scarcely done with that, my bestie came around and cheered up my mood. She knows how to do that magic best, and when she was done with that, she brought out her fabrics that she wanted to sew a new outfit for Sunday service.
I was reluctant to take it from her since I was determined to rest for the day, but you understand that ties between friends make it difficult to say no to her; hence, I proceeded to make it for her.
She brought this flowery pattern fabric, but instead of sewing it plain, I suggested that we add a mixture of plain fabric, which she agreed
I took out the plain fabric and cut out the back bodice here.
Then the front block as well.
Since the plain fabric won't be enough for the facing, I used a bias to turn the neckline here.
Funny enough, I only had pink bias at home and had no choice but to use it. My sewing accessories are exhausted and need replacement.
Next I fixed the zipper to the back block, making sure that it aligned with the front.
Then I had cut the sleeves using her measurements.
To the base of the sleeve added a plain fabric.
Sewing the sleeves to the bodice
It was my first time sewing a kiss pleat lower bodice, so for the lower bodice
I measured 3X her waist measurement, which was pleated to her waist measurement using the kiss pleat.
That was done, and I joined the whole piece together. We had a very long gist while I was making the dress and forgot about some part of the making pictures. I was glad that the outcome of the dress was pretty, and the addition of the plain fabric made it more appealing.
