Hello Hive
It's another beautiful day, and we are grateful for the gift of life. I trust that we are all doing well, and I'm happy to come around the community and feed my eyes with different beautiful and creative projects.
I got up early to prepare my sister for school. Her exams, too, are fast approaching, and she needs all the support she can get. Having done that, I did a quick check on the poultry and rabbits before I now settled down to look into some of the sewing work I have left pending.
While scrolling down my blog page, I spotted the dress I had sewn for my neighbor's daughter some 2 weeks back. I remembered that they also desired that I assist them to sew a shirt and shorts for the same baby and from the same fabric.
For making the dress, I used a meter of fabric.
Cut the front block of the dress using a standard baby's measurements for a guide, as it is often difficult to get the actual size of the baby.

I added hair stay to stiffen the upper block of the clothes.
Then I cut the lower bodice and sewed it into gathers. I sewed this to the upper bodice and then fixed in the zipper and embroidery flowers.
The remaining fabric from sewing a shirt is quite enough to make another outfit for the baby since she is barely 6 months old. A meter of fabric can make her a complete outfit.
What kind of shirt can I sew for a baby? I have been wondering
Sewing baby clothes has been one of my greatest challenges because of their tiny measurements. But recently I realized that if I don't practice more, I won't get used to seeing babies' outfits, and when parents with babies sew clothes from me, they often wish to sew the remaining piece of clothes for their babies. It won't sound ideal if I can't sew a complete set of outfits for parents with babies.
I decided to pick up the challenge of practicing more on how to sew babies' clothes.
I took the remaining piece of fabric to sew a short for the few-month-old baby.
Being careful about her measurements
I measured 20" for the waistline.
Then 6.5" for the crotch depth.
For the hipline, we have to be mindful of the fact that babies wear Pampers, and while taking their measurements, we must take that into consideration.
Next I measured the full length of about 14".
And began to sew the shorts, from the crotch to the side seams .
Folded in the Hems
And then added a band and an elastic to the waistline. It was easy to see the short
When it got to the shirt measurements, I folded the fabrics and started to work on it before I realized that I would be needing help cutting the top. It wasn't like the normal little girls' ball dresses I was used to, and because the fabric was limited, I didn't want to take a chance
I called a friend over to assist me with cutting the shirt and a little explanation. Hopefully I will learn something new and be able to sew an outfit that the baby parent will appreciate. This way I can sew 2 complete outfits/changes of raiment for the bag. A beautiful dress and a shirt and shorts.
