Some of you already know about our recent move out of the forest, and homesteading in suburbia
I have not had my own shop, to play in, for quite a long time... sure it was only a tiny little metal shop, but it's probably been about 10 years!!!
Going to Burning Man was what got me to get into welding, and soon after that we moved into a ground floor commercial space in Brooklyn. After building a bedroom, I made quick work of transforming what was left of that space into a small metal shop that opened onto the street.
I made a few sculptures, jut mostly helped some friends build and fix their crazy double stacked bicycles!
That was a job for a local bar, they wanted a few of these candle holders on their walls, it was nice to make money out of playing with my oxy-acetylene torch!!!
Now we have a two car garage that is to become my new laboratoire!!! Hahaha, yes I can make all sorts of crazy things again! Mostly a fun shop for all the do it yourself thibgs we're into...
So far (because the garage is quite full of things) I manged to find some time to clear off one wall so that I could anchor onto it some vertical 2x4s tm make a lumber rack, just like this here:
I took this photo at work to take as a guideline to build my shop pretty much like this one.
Right now I've only put one set of brackets up high, and I was able to clear the garage floor of the lumber I had collected/salvaged from the dumpster. Hollywood is an ugly business in New York. At the end of a all jobs I've been on, a lot of material ends up getting thrown out... so here I come, with a truck and happily take all the junk I can take home. We have plenty to build a chicken coop with, and the shop!!!
I'll have to make another post one day on the amount of things I've collected over the years from the film industry, it really is unbelievable!
Here's another photo of a tool I need to make for the shop:
Sometime last year I came across a good table saw I could get for super cheap, so I got it along with a whole bunch of different blades, jigs, and a chop saw. I am not very experienced on a table saw, so I'll have to be extra careful, and I will learn without getting cocky.
Well that's all for now, this shop will make me happy, and I'll try to keep you all updated in the things we'll make from it. Perhaps we can even sell some artsy furniture out of it. I would like to make pieces made of wood and metal.
If I can, with all this crazy economy these day, I'll take bitcoin, and Hive!!! We'll see what kind of things we can come up with!
