It's been awhile since I posted a DIY blog. Its not that I haven't being doing DIY stuff, but I've just been making stuff without recording the process. I bought a whole bunch of 4 inch containers which were really flimsy. I needed these urgently and thus I just decided to keep them against my initial decision . I needed to re-pot a whole bunch of succulents hence the decision.
I had to reinforce the pots to strengthen them and prevent them from breaking before I potted plants in them. This was also my opportunity to do some creative work on these pots, so I grabbed it.
I found some of this packaging material that was wrapped around some stuff I ordered on Amazon. I wanted to use it for something creative. At first I wanted to dip this in some white cement mixture. However the weather outside didn't look conducive enough, it was raining heavily. If the dipped material did dry out fast it could fall apart.
I decided to stick it on the container with some wood pvc glue. I applied a thick coat of glue and wrapped the cardboard around the container.
I had to ensure that the cardboard stuck well to the surface and the design showed up well.
Once that was stuck and dried well, I sprayed it with black paint. I gave it a couple of coats between intervals to ensure that the cardboard stayed firm and didn't loose its shape.
After the black paint was dry I took some metallic green powder which I used to for my 3d art work and applied it lightly with a brush.
However, It didn't seem to stand out against the black background. So I decided to use a coat of brass spray paint. This was done randomly in some place while other were left out.
I applied one more coat of green metallic powder to highlight some parts and let it dry. when the paint was dry I gave it a couple of coats with clear paint to ensure that the cardboard used would stay long enough.
When this was dry I re-potted a bunch of string of hearts or rosary vine. I am not sure how long this would last when I hang this container in my balcony. But with so many layers of paint the cardboard looks pretty strong.
Either way I am happy as I will get another opportunity to redecorate it if the cardboard disintegrates.
The next time around I've decided to use a coat of white cement on the cardboard.
I hope you like the final outcome. I love it. I can't seem to get the actual look of it in my camera.
I made a another pot with some shiny tape and dried flowers. I just stuck the flowers on and spray painted the flowers with copper paint to ensure that it stayed longer without loosing it shape and color. This work was a bit shoddy, but it took me under five minutes to get it completed.
This is another another pot I did with paper clay. I designed the rest with a piece of wire drawing the designs randomly as I went. Sorry I forgot to record the process as I usually do hehe.
I would like to have your feedback on what you think about this piece. Personally, I have a bias towards an oxidized brass look.
Thanks for your support and time, I appreciate it very much.
