🇪🇸 ~ Se aproximan los días de manualidades esenciales, sobre todo de aquellas que no necesitan electricidad para su elaboración: El gobierno ha anunciado que los días con racionamiento y cortes del servicio eléctrico se prolongaran, y solo puedo buscar la manera de adaptarme.

🇺🇸 ~ The days for essential crafts are approaching, especially those that don’t require electricity to make: The government has announced that the days of power rationing and outages will continue, and I can only try to find a way to adapt.

Durante estos largos y aburridos periodos de tiempo mi atención se va hacia lo esencial, ¿qué proyectos básicos me hacen falta y he pospuesto?, hoy terminé una libreta de dibujo improvisada que tenía pendiente por hacer desde inicios de Marzo, ¡vamos a eso! 🐣 👉

During these long, boring stretches of time, my focus turns to what really matters: What essential projects have I been putting off? Today I finished a makeshift sketchbook I’d been meaning to work on since early March. Let’s get to it! 🐣 👉

Hace algunas semanas mi mamá me regaló estos espectaculares blocks de dibujo, pero con el paso de los días empecé a tener problemas para guardarlos y por sus dimensiones se me hacía difícil encontrar una posición cómoda para empezar a dibujar.

A few weeks ago, my mom gave me these amazing sketchbooks, but as time went on, I started having trouble storing them, and because of their size, it was hard for me to find a comfortable position to start drawing.

La necesidad de dibujar cómodamente y la posibilidad de guardar las hojas de forma segura me hizo pensar en adaptar el material a una carpeta de dibujo; para este proyecto utilicé 1 carpeta anillada, una perforadora grande, alcohol, una toalla pequeña, lápiz, reglas de distintos tamaños y un cutter pequeño.

The need to draw comfortably and the ability to store the sheets safely led me to adapt the materials into a sketchbook; for this project, I used 1 ring binder, a large hole punch, rubbing alcohol, a small towel, a pencil, rulers of various sizes, and a small craft knife.

El alcohol y la toalla pequeña son para higienizar la carpeta como primer paso. Lamentablemente antes de empezar a cortar y perforar el papel, me di cuenta que las hojas aún cortadas a la mitad serian mucho mas altas que la distancia total que podía almacenar el sistema de anillado.

The alcohol and small towel are for sanitizing the folder as a first step. Unfortunately, before I started cutting and punching holes in the paper, I realized that even when cut in half, the sheets would still be much taller than the total height the ring binder could accommodate.

Para solucionar ese inconveniente cambie mi selección de carpeta por una cuyo sistema de anillado fuera solo en el centro, sin bordes ni marcos en ninguno de sus lados.

To resolve this issue, I switched to a folder with a ring mechanism only in the centre, with no edges or frames on any of its sides.

Después medí el centro de 1 hoja como muestra y el centro de los anillos, que fueron 8 cm. Moví el sistema de perforado de la perforadora a una medida adecuada, y comencé a doblar con mucha paciencia todas las hojas de 1 de los blocks. En total fueron 25 hojas (al cortarlas, fueron 50).

I then measured the centre of one sheet as a sample and the centre of the rings, which were 8 cm. I adjusted the hole-punch to the correct setting and began, with great patience, to fold all the sheets in one of the pads. There were 25 sheets in total (50 when cut).

Para cortar las hojas utilice la regla y el cutter pequeño, es más rápido y limpio que utilizar tijeras; también dividí en 2 y perforé el carton base que traía el block en su fondo y fabrique 2 tapas protectoras para que las hojas no quedaran tan expuestas.

To cut the sheets, use a ruler and a small craft knife; it’s quicker and neater than using scissors. I also cut the cardboard backing that came with the pad in half, punched holes in the bottom, and made two protective covers so that the sheets wouldn’t be so exposed.

En un futuro seguro las decore ฅ⁠^{⁠•⁠ﻌ⁠•⁠}⁠ฅ pero por hoy hace mucho calor, y este ha sido un agradable proyecto para pasar el tiempo y sobre todo para tener algo de buen formato donde dibujar cuando se me antoje 📘 🖍️ 💙

I’ll definitely decorate them in the future ฅ⁠^{⁠•⁠ع⁠•⁠}⁠ฅ but it’s far too hot today, and this has been a lovely project to pass the time and, above all, to have something in a nice format to draw on whenever I feel like it 📘 🖍️ 💙
