Our Christmas became more busy because of the year end party of the kids.
My daughter decided to make her younger sister a DIY halo for her year end party. Instead of buying one, she wanted to make it by herself using simple materials we already have at home. It was not easy, but she enjoyed every part of it.
Materials For the Angel Costume
Glue
Bond Paper
Used plain head band
Ziplock
Scissor
Plain white dress
Used clothes with designs, laces
Glue Stick and Glue Gun
Beads (optional)
Yarn and needle
Recycle clothes
She wrapped the headband with a white fuzzy wire, then she attached a Ziplock. This will hold the paper feathers that she will make. She carefully cut the paper into feather shapes and slowly attached them one by one. It took time and patience. Sometimes the glue was too messy, sometimes the paper did not stick well, but she didn’t stop. She kept fixing it until it looked like wings and a proper halo.
She also enhances a plain white dress for her sister. She added some used cloth with gold design to make it look more special. She stitched it by hand and adjusted it little by little. It was not perfect, but it looked beautiful because it was made with effort and love. Seeing her take responsibility like that made me feel proud as a mother. Maybe it's also because I didn't have a sibling, I don't have inspiration to make crafts like these.
Aside from the costume, we also prepared candies for Ria's classmates. We packed them using cupcake liners. It was simple but cute. We placed different kinds of candies inside and wrapped them carefully. My daughters helped each other, laughing and sometimes arguing, but in the end, they worked together. The room was messy, but it was a happy kind of mess. What I liked most was seeing how my elder daughter took care of her younger sister. She didn’t complain even if she was tired. She just wanted her sister to feel happy and confident during the school program. For me, this DIY project was not only about the halo or the dress. It was about sisterhood, patience, and love inside our home.
Sometimes we think we need expensive things to make moments special, but this experience showed me that effort is more important. Simple materials, recycled cloth, and shared time can already create something meaningful. This DIY halo may not be perfect, but it carries a story, and that is what matters most to us.
