I’m pretty sure I’ve started this book before. I don’t remember much about it though. I’m surrounded by readers at work and they are all in management. So they push books around and this is the one that’s going around the office right now. I try to read a couple here and there and try to create some good conversations with the team. This book has captured my attention though so far.
Do you have the skills to “think again”?
Props to the designer of this book cover I think it’s cool.
Chapter 1. Yes that is all I have read so far. This talks about how most of us spend our time in one of three modes. preacher, prosecutor, or politician. He says we actually need to spend more time in the mindset of a scientist.
Below shows the thought cycle for each of those modes. When we are in scientist mode we follow the rethinking cycle. Because we are hungry to discover and learn, even if it goes against what we already know. When we are a prosecutor, preacher or politician, we are in the overconfidence cycle most of the time.
Re thinking favors humility over pride, doubt over conviction, curiosity over confirmation and desirability biases, and discovery over validation.
I think in I jump from cycle to cycle based on what we are talking about. But I spend a lot of time in overconfidence cycle.
Where does hive live?
I liked this next image from the book.
What excuses do we use to not re think something? I’ve used most of these over and over again.
Great book to start so far. Good reminders that we need to re think and not get stuck.
