Today's weather was quite friendly, so I didn't waste this opportunity to go hunting for macro photos on the outskirts of town. I stopped at a patch of weeds because, habitually, that's where I can catch some fascinating insects. No effort is wasted! Yeah, I found a beautiful bee there.
| Latin name | Observation date | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Coelioxys sp. | 06.08.2023 | Alue Awe, Muara Dua, Lhokseumawe City, Aceh, Indonesia |
It has compound eyes that are celadon green with black spots, a face that has cream or white fur, and a white abdomen with black bands that mimic the coloration of a zebra.
Such characteristics of the bee led me to the conclusion that this was a species of Coelioxys, a genus of solitary kleptoparasite cuckoo bees belonging to the family Megachilidae. Its common name is the sharp-tailed bee or leaf-cutting cuckoo bee.
