I wanted to veer slightly off the usual topic of my posts to let you all know that, finally after hours of hard work I’ve managed to carve out a few days to enjoy some video games. And, as a juicy bonus, I bought a new controller to play on my PC and boy, am I enjoying it!
Let’s talk a little bit about that specifically, why controllers are objectively superior and why they should definitely have a place in the entire development process of Holozing.
And no, it’s not just about comfort... although that is the immediate benefit. With a keyboard and mouse, you’re in "work" mode: back straight, hands tense, everything feeling very rigid. In contrast, with a controller, you can relax, lean back a little, and play in a much more laid-back way.
And that aligns perfectly with the vibe Holozing conveys: exploration, connecting with creatures, and moments of tranquility interspersed with action. It feels like a game designed to be savored rather than one where you have to "sweat" over every single second and a controller fits that philosophy like a glove.
Then there’s the matter of immersion. This is where the controller wins hands down. The joysticks provide much more natural, fluid movement. You aren't restricted to rigid, cardinal directions like you are with WASD; instead,
you can move freely, fine-tuning every step whether you’re approaching a "Zing" slowly or reacting instantly to a dangerous situation. If Holozing ends up featuring open-world maps or dynamic, living environments, this is going to make a massive difference in how it feels to traverse that world.
Combat also comes into play here. If the game system incorporates mechanics like dodging, real-time abilities, or split-second decisions—such as timing a heal at just the right moment—the controller holds a distinct advantage. The buttons are designed for instinctive, thoughtless reaction, and the triggers offer an extra layer of tactile feedback that a keyboard simply can't replicate as intuitively.
After playing for a little while, your hands get used to it, and everything just flows effortlessly. You don't have to look down at anything—you can just focus on playing the game.
Another point that many people tend to underestimate is the emotional connection. Yes, I know that sounds a bit odd, but it’s a real thing. When you’re holding a controller, you feel the game more deeply. If Holozing implements features like vibration or haptic feedback during key moments such as when a Zing is low on health, or when you successfully execute a critical heal it pulls you even deeper into the overall experience.
It’s not just about watching what happens; it’s about feeling it a little bit, too.
Now, the keyboard isn't entirely out of the picture. It has its advantages—especially in menus, inventory management, or if you’re the type who likes to optimize everything down to the last millimeter.
But to be honest, Holozing doesn't strike me as a game meant to be played with an extreme, competitive mindset. It’s more about experiencing the journey connecting with the world and with your creatures. And in that regard, a controller just feels more natural.
There’s also an important factor to consider with an eye toward the future: the type of community. If Holozing wants to grow and attract players from all walks of life including console gamers controller support is key. It’s more accessible, more familiar, and makes it easier for a wider range of people to jump in without any friction.
Those are all my thoughts for now! Remember that the comments section below is always open if you’d like to share your thoughts, and I look forward to seeing you in the next post. Thanks for stopping by!
