Hey guys, How's everyone doing this weekend? I hope you guys are having a great day. Today I have something to share with you guys. I had this idea about creating a water healer where her hair is made out of fresh ocean water because it literally screams water healer so naturally there will be waves on her hair with white frothy bubbles at the end. This is the part I wanted to focus mostly because of the nature of the healer and this is also the part which I wanted to stand out. I added a bunch of other details on her hair and if you look closely you can even see some fishes made out of water splashing off and swimming on and near her watery hair. For this piece I wanted to try out a new lighting condition and found the perfect reference for it from Pinterest. Honestly, this was the first time I'm rendering a person in this type of lighting condition which involved a lots of bounce lights on her body. Regardless of that I still painted her and this was the result!
Water healer
The Process
- Made a rough sketch first.
- A clean lineart was made later from the former.
- Painted the first layer of colours. I Decided to render the skin first because of the bounce lights.
- Started painting the bounce lights under the face and other areas of the body.
- Began rendering the eyes as well. Added shadows and highlights on it. Started rendering some areas of the face.
- Added yellow highlights on her skin and tweaked the skin colour using tone curve feature. Used an airbrush on a add layer to paint light bleeding into the shadow borders on her skin.
- Painter her hair with base colour so since hair is present and source of light is from above I painted dark shadows under her hair.
- I started to paint the hair(dark and light strokes) using a pen fade brush in low opacity.
- Painted darker and lighter strokes to add depth to the hair and tweaked the colours a bit. Also layed down the base red colour for her lips.
- Painted the froathy bubbles at the end of her wavy hair and changed the tone of the skin reddish because of the red background which will be later turned to blue.
- I began to render clothes at this point. Painted the first coat of shadow layer.
- Painted highlights and second layer of shadows on her clothes and began to blend it a bit using my new cloth textured brush. Also gave her a earning made out of pure water.
- Gave her other accessories like her crown and water healer logo necklace which is inspired from the official Art but it was redesigned to fit this new style. After this I changed the background to blue and created some circular strokes to give it a resemblance to water ripples. After that I refined the artwork a bit more. Added more details and the work was finished after 3 days(not continuously). I hope you guys enjoyed the process.
