Hey guys, How are you all? I hope everyone is having a great day. Two days ago I formatted my tab because of space issues so I lost all of my custom brushes added inside my ibis paint I got from Pinterest so I had to import them again Since I was doing it I found a cool brush with cloth like texture patterns on Pinterest. I tested it and the brush was surprisingly smooth unlike my other imported brushes and on top of that it's seems to be handling the pressure sensivity really well so it was really good for blending and adding textures. I had to test it on something so I decided to make a fanart of the holozing Water Whale and this was the result!
Water whale
The Process
- I wanted a dynamic pose for this one and I found this reference from Pinterest and made a rough sketch out of it.
- Added the base colours first using two different hues of blue.
- The source of light was from the right side so I painted the darker areas accordingly
- Added more highlights and shadows of varying hues according to the direction of the source of light and blended it with the new brush while keeping the textures intact.
- Painted the sky background with the textures brush and added a minor Gaussian blur on its. After that some clouds were painted on it.
- Started painting the sea. It was done using pen fade brush instead of the textures brush.
- Painted more lighter waves this time using skyblue and white colour on an add layer for max brightness.
- Duplicated the add layer I just made above and blurred it to get the glow effect on the sea water. Added a focus blur on the sea to divert the attention to the whale and then as the finishing touch I painted some bubbles around the whale.
