Capacity is the ability to do work. It is an individual ability — both mental and physical.
It means the maximum power embedded in something. An empty vessel cannot dissipate anything.
Capacity building can be in the form of skill dissipation, where one’s skills are shared for the benefit of an organization or community.
Hive community needs to build capacity!
How can this be done? This can be done by us. We are the brain of this community, and if we use this brain correctly, a lot can be achieved.
Capacity building is not only external — it can also be internal. When it is internal, it involves you. It is your inner ability to receive, grow, and improve.
Capacity building in this world has physical, spiritual, and mental foundations.
In the Bible, a man called David had this capacity.
There was a time he was in the bush.
God taught him there. He taught him how to fight — to the extent that David acknowledged: "God has trained my hands for war."
The Cave of Adullam marked David’s transformation.
He gained power after fleeing from Saul.
Someone once sang a song:
Oh Adullam, higher o higher o,
O secret place, higher o higher o,
Higher o higher o…
Today, Adullam is considered a place of hiding where one gains renewal of strength.
It is a place where we must go to renew ourselves for leadership.
Adullam is a place where the rejected and dejected find strength to rise again.
David built his capacity while alone as a shepherd boy.
God was preparing him — and he humbled himself.
Others also built capacity in hard times:
- Jephthah, the outcast who became a leader.
- Job, who lost all, but God tested his capacity.
Job said:
“Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him” (Job 13:15).
If Deborah had not built her capacity, she would not have gone to war with Barak.
Look at Daddy E.A. Adeboye — he has built capacity to impact men with the word of God.
There is always a time to be silent and learn.
There is also a time to dissipate and give.
In the Hive community, one must build capacity to earn and contribute meaningfully.
In holos and lotus, and in many other spheres, we must build our capacity by bringing in more people and sharing what we know.
