Hello to everyone in the Holos-Lotus community! Today I join initiative #12 of the space Esa Vida Nuestra. This time the topic is entitled "Domestic Speech" and invites us to reflect on the language we use in the intimacy of our home. The one that can only be deciphered and understood by our family members or closest friends. So here I will be sharing some of those words we use at home. Join me.

¡Hola a todos en la comunidad de Holos-Lotus! El día de hoy me uno a la iniciativa #12 del espacio Esa Vida Nuestra. Esta vez el tema a tratar se titula "Habla Doméstica" y nos invita a reflexionar sobre aquel lenguaje que utilizamos en la intimidad de nuestro hogar. Aquel que solo pueden descifrar y entender los miembros de nuestra familia o amigos más cercanos. Por lo que aquí estaré compartiendo parte de esas palabras que utilizamos en casa. Acompáñame.

Papá Chino
This name is one of my favorites as I can't help but laugh every time my partner mentions it and it came about when we were watching the movie Scarface one day. At one point in the movie I mentioned something to him that had to do with the actor Al Pacino, but I said it so fast that he heard Papá Chino and the laughter was not lacking. Now every time we see the actor in question we refer to him as Papa Chino; "they're going to show a movie with Papa Chino on TV."
Papá Chino
Este nombre es uno de mis favoritos pues no puedo evitar reír cada que mi pareja lo menciona y surgió cuando un día veíamos la película Cara Cortada. En un momento dado de la película le comenté algo que tenía que ver con el actor Al Pacino, pero lo dije tan rápido que él escuchó Papá Chino y las carcajadas no faltaron. Ahora cada que vemos al actor en cuestión lo nombramos como Papá Chino "van a dar en la televisión una película con Papá Chino".
Meloca
The word came about as an invention of my friend Paola, a long-time friend who I consider my family. On one occasion she commented on how Wilfredo (my partner) didn't like that I was so affectionate with him. Then my friend Paola responded by saying that I was very meloca, a combination of the word melosa and loca. To give you an idea, the word serves to describe a behavior similar to that of Elvira Duff, the character from the Tiny Toons (children's animated series) who loved animals and hugged them with such frenzy that they all ran out of her reach to avoid being hurt. That anecdote remained for posterity and continues to cause laughter every time we remember it or use it at home.

La palabra surgió como una invención de mi amiga Paola, una amistad de hace años y que considero cómo de mi familia. En una ocasión comentaba sobre cómo Wilfredo (mí pareja) no le gustaba que yo fuera tan afectuosa con él. Entonces mi amiga Paola respondió diciendo qué yo era muy meloca, una combinación entre la palabra melosa y loca. Para darles una idea, la palabra sirve para describir un comportamiento similar al de Elvira Duff, el personaje de los Tiny Toons (serie animada infantil) que amaba a los animales y los abrazaba con tanto frenesí que todos corrían fuera de su alcance para evitar ser lastimados. Esa anécdota quedó para la posteridad y sigue causando risas cada que lo recordamos o utilizamos en casa.
Cobiteta
It arose from the moment when we (my partner and I) discovered that our cat Kira, when she was still a puppy, began to sink her paws into a blanket we had in the room. The way she did it was sucking, as if she wanted to be breastfed. We were quite curious and discovered that this action in small cats is due to a natural instinct to seek the mother's breast. On the other hand, if it occurs in adult cats, it may be due to stress or boredom. In any case, we name the blankets or fabrics that cats like to suckle as Cobitetas, a combination between the word blanket and teat.

Surgió del momento en el que descubrimos (mí pareja y yo) que nuestra gata Kira, cuando aún era cachorra, comenzaba a hundir sus patitas en una cobija que teníamos en el cuarto. La forma en que lo hacía era la de succionando, cómo queriendo ser amamantada. El hecho nos causó bastante curiosidad y descubrimos que esta acción en los gatos pequeños se debe a un instinto natural por buscar el pecho de la madre. En cambio sí se presenta en gatos adultos puede deberse a estrés o aburrimiento. En todo caso, nombramos a las cobijas o telas que los gatos gustan de succionar cómo las Cobitetas, una combinación entre la palabra cobija y teta.
The Sweeper
For a long time I have created a habit of naming some objects incorrectly and this one, La Barredora, is one of them. This is also because of those mental lapses where I don't remember the exact name of an object and I say the first thing that comes to my mind and that is related to the action of the object. The name La Barredora refers to the broom for its action of sweeping/sweeping. I have also renamed many other things around the house; the cleaner (the disinfectant), the thing that keeps you warm (a sweater or blanket), the moisturizer (the body cream), the cantadera (the microphone), etc. The good thing is that my partner already knows me and understands what I am trying to communicate. Which often surprises me.
La Barredora
Desde hace tiempo he creado una maña de nombrar de forma incorrecta algunos objetos y esta, La Barredora, es una de ellas. Esto también por esos lapsos mentales dónde no recuerdo con exactitud el nombre de un objeto y digo lo primero que se me ocurre y que este relacionado con la acción del mismo. El nombre La Barredora hace referencia a la escoba por su acción de barrer/arrastrar. Así mismo le he cambiado el nombre a muchísimas otras cosas en la casa; el limpiador (el desinfectante), la cosa que abriga (un suéter o una cobija), el humectante (la crema corporal), la cantadera (el micrófono), etc. Lo bueno es que mi pareja ya me conoce y comprende lo que trato de comunicar. Lo cual muchas veces me sorprende.
Burzum
Before I go I will leave here one last word which comes from the Norwegian Black metal band, Burzum. Its meaning is "darkness" and it comes from a fictional language created by the writer Tolkien. At one point we wanted to give certain words a meaning that only we could understand under certain circumstances. We intended to use these words as signals: if we had to leave a place, not to say such and such, to slow down, etc. Burzum's means "danger" to us, it is a warning sign. Although now that I have revealed it I think it lost its usefulness.

Antes de irme dejaré por aquí una última palabra la cual proviene de la banda de Black metal Noruega, Burzum. Su significado es el de "oscuridad" y proviene de un lenguaje ficticio creado por el escritor Tolkien. En un momento dado nosotros quisimos otorgar a ciertas palabras un significado que solo nosotros pudiéramos entender bajo ciertas circunstancias. Pretendíamos utilizar estas palabras como señales: si debíamos irnos de un lugar, no decir tal cosa, ir más despacio, etc. El de Burzum significa para nosotros "peligro", es una señal de advertencia. Aunque ahora que lo he revelado creo que perdió su utilidad.
Finally, my friends, I really enjoyed participating in this initiative because I had a lot of fun bringing here a compilation of some of the words we use at home. The spontaneity of some of them is what I like the most because almost all of them came up that way and some of them took shape with time. I value the language we have created in our home and I would like to invite my friend 
Finalmente amigos míos me ha gustado mucho participar en esta iniciativa pues me he divertido mucho trayendo por aquí una compilación de algunas de las palabras que utilizamos en casa. La espontaneidad de algunas de ellas es lo que más me gusta pues casi todas surgieron de esa forma y algunas tomaron forma con el tiempo.
