Today's society has been so divided about defining love especially between couples, their kids and relatives. Many people often asked "who do you love most between a husband and kids?" or "who do you love most between mother and wife?" The response from most people tends to come from their emotional attachment rather than what truly defines love in the deepest form.
Majority of women would say they love their children more than anything else in this world, the same goes for the children as they always tend to gravitate towards their mother than they do to their father. As for men, when asked who they loved most between their wives and their mothers, many men would choose their mothers without hesitation. This is the reality of human relationship and love in today's society.
But here is the truth about the greatest love that I want to share with you in this post. A verse from the bible said “Greater love has no one than this: except for a man to lay down his life for his friend”. That verse is in John 15:13.
Now, let's look at it again from a deeper perspective that goes beyond emotional attachment. Who truly loves you between your husband, your children, your mother and your siblings?
Your children loves you because you are their mother, you gave birth to them and they don't have alternative, no other woman can be a mother to them except you who gave birth to them. Your mother and your siblings loves you because you shared the same blood and family ties with them. Still no alternative, you are her child and their sibling, no one else can take that position.
But your husband chose you out of all the people in the world. No blood ties, not a relative, no biological obligation, he doesn't know how you where born, or the content of your heart, yet he still chose you out of all the billions of people on this earth to spend his life and build a future together. What kind of love is that if not the greatest love of all?
Your mother loves you because she had to, your kids loves you because you are the only one for them, your siblings loves you because you share the same blood, but your husband loves you because of choice. It could have been another person but he chose you and that's what makes his love the greatest love of all.
Today I see women sidelining their husbands and treating them as secondary to their children and I think this is a mistake because if they understand the true meaning of love they would realize that their husbands love is the purest form of love that exists in this world.
The same can also be applied to men who chooses their mothers over their wives, or their children over their wives. The greatest love of all is when two strangers chose to come together as one and take one identity.
A relationship where couples chooses their mothers or children over each other risk breaking apart, because the foundation of that union which their love was built upon has been compromised. Many marriages today are only passing through time because the couples have shifted their priorities away from each other and places them elsewhere.
