1 Your thoughts on block and mute
What do you think of the value of social media and messaging platforms providing tools like block & mute as a part of avoiding the "need" for top-down censorship?
2 Would you like to have a mute feature in Telegram?
I'm talking a feature where, in a group you can tap on a user's avatar icon and choose "Mute this person." Thereafter, in that group you will not see their messages.
If you answered yes, there are at least three quick and easy ways you can help.
1 Using your review of the app
In Google Play Store or the equivalent on iOS, change your review to be like you see in the image below.
How can your review help?
Many app makers have a filter they use that merely sorts by number of stars in ascending order so they can address the most grievous complaints or issues. Because every rating has an influence on their overall rating, many app developers care about this enough to address the issue. The more of us who "vote" with our review in this way, the more likely Telegram devs are to pay attention and create a mute feature for us as I've described here.
2 Send an email to Telegram support
Use the form here: https://telegram.org/support
I have a feature request.
Let's call it "mute messages" **not mute notifications**. I know "mute notifications" already exists.
Example: When I'm inside a big Telegram group with hundreds or thousands of members. Let's say I don't own the group. There are sometimes members whom I'd rather not see their messages, for whatever reason. Maybe they are spamming, harassing, or maybe they speak a language I don't understand.
I'd like to be able to mute whatever they say (messages) **within the group** so I don't see their messages as I communicate in the group. The current mute feature does not do this, as far as I know. The current mute feature, as far as I know, is just about muting notifications.
I appreciate that you seem to care about privacy and free speech. I see muting as a great way to keep censorship out of the platform because it allows individual users to manage what they see or don't see.
Please add the kind of mute feature I'm describing here.
Sincerely,
Scott Swain
3 Spread the word
Duplicate this post, refer to it, etc. Feel free to re-post, change the content, or even claim you wrote it. I don't care. The point is to spread awareness and get Telegram to pay attention.
