The center of town has a number of grand buildings in it. I am not sure when it was officially established but Europeans first showed up in the 17th century. Prior to that, for a long time, Native tribes called the area home. So, by modern US standards, this is one of the old New England towns, and it has the architecture to prove it.
"Pawtucket" comes from the Algonquian word for "river fall." I think you can see why.
The Blackstone River runs right through he center of Pawtucket. It used to be the linchpin of the textile industry that was one of the main industries in town.
I thoroughly enjoyed the walk. Hopefully, I managed to capture the spirit of the place for you.
Enjoy!
