Hello everybody. Today I bring you a compilation of photographs where I portray some animals throughout my life. A short compilation but full of anecdotes.
I have always liked animals. So when I acquired my first compact camera, which was a Kodak and when I had the opportunity I took some pictures. The first photograph belongs to Guillermo Gonzáles, a photographer from Valencia who was constantly taking pictures of the animals at the Valencia Aquarium. I worked there and on several occasions I had to attend him, so in one of those snake photo sessions I asked him to take a picture of me with the albino python you see. Her name is Elizabeth. She is, like most of the animals at the Zoo, a rescued wild animal. Elizabeth, the snake was left abandoned by a stranger, at the gates of the place and taken in by the keepers, under a strict quarantine period. During this time, its behavior and behavior, adaptability, diet and some other things that will determine if it can be reintegrated to the wildlife or must remain in captivity are studied. This species cannot be released because it is not endogenous, so it must remain in place. This is very serious because it means that it was brought in through animal trafficking. It would be surprising to know how many wild animals are taken from their habitat for illegal sale. The work of zoos is not to be a prison, as many would say, but rather to safeguard all those animals that are victims of hunting, sale and distribution in different markets. In addition to the rescue of some animals that have lost their habitat or have been found scattered in different sectors of the city.
Hola a todos. El día de hoy les traigo una recopilación de fotografías dónde retrato algunos animales a lo largo de mi vida. Una recopilación corta pero llena de anécdotas.
Siempre me han gustado los animales. Por lo cual cuando adquirí mi primera cámara compacta, que era una Kodak y cuando tenía oportunidad sacaba algunas fotografías. La primera fotografía, pertenece a Guillermo Gonzáles, un fotógrafo de Valencia que realizaba constantemente fotografías a los animales del Acuario de Valencia. Yo trabajé allí y en varias ocasiones me tocó atenderlo, por lo cual en una de esas sesiones de fotos a las serpientes le pedí que me tomara una fotografía con la pitón albina que ven. Se llama Elizabeth. Es, como la mayoría de los animales del Zoológico, un animal salvaje rescatado. Elizabeth, la serpiente fue dejada abandona por un desconocido, en las puertas del lugar y acogida por los cuidadores, bajo un estricto de periodo de cuarentena. Tiempo en el que se estudia su conducta y comportamiento, capacidad de adaptación, dieta y algunas otras cosas que determinarán si está puede reintegrarse a la fauna o debe permanecer bajo cautiverio. Está especie no puede ser liberada porque no es endógena, por lo cual debe permanecer en el lugar. Algo muy grave ya que significa que fue traída a través del tráfico de animales. Sorprendería saber cuántos animales silvestres son ultrajados de su hábitat para la venta ilícita. La labor de los zoológicos no es ser una cárcel, como muchos dirían, sino más bien que tiene como propósito salvaguardar a todos aquellos animales víctimas de la caza, la venta y la distribución de estos por distintos mercados. Además del rescate de algunos que han perdido su hábitat o han sido encontrados desorbitados por sectores de la ciudad.
For me, photographs should tell a story, and when I talk about animals, it touches very sensitive issues for me as mentioned above. The following pictures are from when I visited the Caricuao Zoo and I was able to meet animals like the elephant, the buffalo, monkeys, and others. I had never seen them before and it was surprising their size and demeanor. I don't have pictures of all of them but here are some that I was able to rescue. Some animals were free walking all over the park, like the royal bird that you see, with its beautiful colors was walking around with a lot of elegance and attitude. As well as we could find geese and other birds. I don't know about the current situation of this zoo and its animals. It is not a secret that Venezuela has gone through very hard situations and that also affected places like these and their respective animals. I hope it is the same as it was when I first visited the place.
Para mí las fotografías deben contar una historia, además cuando hablo acerca de los animales, toca temas muy sensibles para mí como lo comentado arriba. Las siguientes fotografías son de cuando visite el Zoológico de Caricuao y pude conocer animales como el elefante, el búfalo, monos, y otros. Nunca antes los había visto y fue sorprendete su tamaño y porte. No tengo fotografías de todos pero aquí algunas que pude rescatar. Algunos animales estaban libres caminando por todo el parque, como el ave real que ven, con sus colores hermosos se paseaba con mucha elegancia y actitud. Así como podíamos encontrar gansos y otras aves. Desconozco de la situación actual de este zoológico y de sus animales. No es un secreto que Venezuela ha atravesado por situaciones muy duras y eso también afectó a lugares como estos y a sus respectivos animales. Espero que se encuentre igual que al momento que conocí el lugar.
The last pictures were taken when I visited the Negra Hipolita Park. Valencia is known for being an area full of wildlife. You can find parrots and macaws everywhere, as well as other birds. In the park there is a niche of macaws that often perch on seats and passersby. The macaw you see in the photograph accompanied us during our stay and it was clearly accustomed to human company. I also photographed an iguana enjoying the warmth of the sun. There are many of them all over the park. I think they are one of the most targeted animals throughout Venezuela, as they are a delicacy in some areas of the country.
Finally I can say that capturing the image of the animals in their purest state is something unique. Their natural beauty is enough to make a photograph beautiful. All of them have history and I think it is important to emphasize that the protection and care of them is the responsibility not only of the entities in charge but also of us as citizens of the world. Las últimas fotografía las tomé cuando visite el Parque Negra Hipólita. Valencia se conoce por ser una zona llena de vida silvestre. Podrás encontrar por dónde sea loros y guacamayas, así como otras aves. En el parque hay un nicho de guacamayas que suelen posarse sobre los asientos y los transeúntes. La guacamaya que ven en la fotografía nos acompaño durante nuestra estadía y se notaba que estaba acostumbrada a la compañía humana. También fotografié una iguana que disfrutaba del calor del sol. Hay muchísimas por todo el parque. Creo que son uno de los animales más atacados por toda Venezuela, ya que suelen ser un manjar en algunas zonas del país.
Finalmente puedo decir que el capturar la imagen de los animales en su estado más puro es algo único. La belleza natural de ellos es suficiente para que una fotografía sea hermosa. Todos ellos tienen historia y considero que es importante resaltar que el resguardo y cuido de los mismos es responsabilidad no solo de las entidades a cargo si no de nosotros como ciudadanos del mundo.
