Amanecer en la vasta región fronteriza entre Venezuela y Brasil es una experiencia formidable. Sentir el nacimiento del día mientras se viaja desde Boa Vista hasta Pacaraima, para luego cruzar la frontera hacia Santa Elena de Uairén (Bolívar, Venezuela), propicia un encuentro fascinante con el paisaje geográfico. Recorrer la inmensa sabana brasileña al alba es renovar la vida; es transitar por un canal de luz donde mi teléfono inteligente captura la potencia de la belleza matutina y ese caudal cromático que reactiva mis neuronas.
These are extraordinary phases that I enjoy consciously. I mean this literally, because sometimes these routes are traveled with the indifference of someone seeing a commonplace landscape. However, I know it is fabulous to cross this path and recreate the spirit during the journey; it is an honor to receive this gift from wise Nature. Likewise, I manage to capture images of the road through Canaima National Park, catching the wonderful everyday life of the mountains and the Roraima massif. Under the protection of this paradisiacal presence, the tepuyes rise; with my camera, I take advantage of this reward to treasure it also within the sacred chamber of my soul.
Son fases extraordinarias que disfruto conscientemente. Lo digo de forma literal, porque a veces estas rutas se recorren con la indiferencia de quien ve un paisaje cotidiano. Sin embargo, sé que es fabuloso atravesar este camino y recrear el espíritu en la travesía; es un honor recibir este regalo de la sabia naturaleza. Asimismo, logro capturar imágenes de la carretera a través del Parque Nacional Canaima, captando la maravillosa cotidianidad de la montaña y el bloque del Roraima. Bajo el resguardo de esta presencia paradisíaca se alzan los tepuyes; con mi cámara, aprovecho esta recompensa para atesorarla también en la cámara sagrada de mi alma.

My travel plan consists of departing at noon by bus from Santa Elena de Uairén toward Ciudad Bolívar, along a road flanked by savanna, jungle, ridges, and mountains. The transport leaves behind the spectacle of Mount Roraima to enter a space of towering trees, where the mountain presses against the road and the driver remains alert for any eventuality, be it a wild animal or a fallen tree. Numerous checkpoints mark the presence of road security in this luminous transit of an unforgettable visual adventure.
Esta es una travesía inédita por el canal de luz de la Amazonía venezolana y brasileña. Mi plan de viaje consiste en partir al mediodía en el autobús desde Santa Elena de Uairén hacia Ciudad Bolívar, por una carretera flanqueada por sabana, selva, serranías y montañas. El transporte deja atrás el espectáculo del monte Roraima para penetrar en un espacio de árboles elevados, donde la montaña estrecha la vía y el chofer se mantiene alerta ante cualquier eventualidad, ya sea un animal salvaje o un árbol caído. Los numerosos puestos de control marcan la presencia de la seguridad vial en este tránsito luminoso de una aventura visual inolvidable.
The moment arrives when the driver pulls over at a small roadside stop so that we passengers can get off for a snack. This place is special. I step off the bus and breathe the pure mountain air. I gaze at the rock that rises there with its spiritual presence and take several shots. Passersby call the place "The Virgin’s Rock" (La Piedra de la Virgen) due to a white mark on the stone. It is an admirable lithic icon of the Guiana Shield.
Llega el momento en que el conductor se estaciona en un pequeño parador para que los pasajeros bajemos a tomar un refrigerio. Este sitio es especial. Me apeo del autobús y respiro el aire puro de la montaña. Oteo la roca que se alza allí con su presencia espiritual y realizo varias tomas. Los transeúntes llaman al lugar “La Piedra de la Virgen” debido a una mancha blanca en la roca. Es un ícono lítico admirable del Macizo Guayanés.

Valoro esta piedra angular desde mi sencillo espíritu. Siempre que la observo en mi aventura por la Gran Sabana, la percibo con el rostro austero del legendario indio Canaima. Aquí reside toda la memoria de los pueblos originarios que mantienen su impecable presencia monolítica y su mirada antigua en el corazón que late en la selva amazónica de Venezuela y Brasil.
