I’m back with a new photo series from Portugal. And this time I focused mainly on the rocks. PRAIA AZUL located on the west coast near Porto is known for its raw coastline, where the ocean constantly shapes the land. What caught my attention here, were the stone formations – not just because of their size but also because or rather mainly of the structure and texture. It looked really amazing in real. The surfaces are rough, full of cracks and layers with clear signs of erosion and weathering. You can actually see how the water, wind and salt worked on them over the years!! This is so excited!
Geologically this part of Portugal has mostly metamorphic rocks, especially schist and gneiss. These rocks were formed under high pressure and temperature deep underground, then pushed to the surface over millions of years. What we see now are stones that have been exposed to the Atlantic for centuries. Really worth to see in real life.
I took these frames because of the natural lines, texture and contrast. The early morning sun helped to bring out the textures and the angle made the rocks almost look sculpted. Nothing here is polished or artificial – just stone shaped by time and weather. There are the shots that may look simple at first but when you slow down and pay attention, there's a lot to notice. So please enjoy it!
