BC Place Stadium is one of the most prominent architectural landmarks that delineates the cityscape. It cannot be missed, especially at night when it glows in all sorts of colours, and its beams rise like giant spider legs above the city lights downtown.
During the day, you can catch glimpses of this impressive 'colosseum' from different points around the city. It houses the local football and soccer teams. As well, it has hosted concerts, religious events, and monster-truck Jamming. With a capacity of 59,000+, it has done well as a multi-purpose venue, though not without its share of controversies.
This stadium will host a few world cup matches, and I am sure the atmosphere is going to be electric.
Thomas Muller in da house!
Inside, the stadium feels cavernous with its massive spaces and structures. The atmosphere vibrates with the loud sounds and crowd noises. The food and prices could be better. The drinks hit the spot. And when there is a good match, which is all that matters, and the local team wins- as it did in this game with the crowd going wild- then it's an unforgettable experience.
The domed roof is retractable after updates to the original design. While this sounds excellent, it is not so if there is smoke from forest fires nearby. I attended a women's world cup match during a smoky season, and we were steaming in our juices in there. But if the weather permits during the upcoming WC games, the roof is going to be open and things are gonna get buck wild.
