" She has way too many places blacklisted" said a friend of mine.
My friend and I were chatting away as we try to decide the next spot we would be spending for our coffee time. In this small town, I have quite a bit of them that gets into my "blacklist". They all have different reasons and especially poor service and the place that isn't quite aesthetic. But How time flies!
I still remember the first few years when coffee shops slowly spruced up this small town. Unfortunately, most of them did not survive the first 3 years of the business and failed to find a loyal customer and innovate. At one point, the business died down due to covid and only today, more coffee shops, mostly franchises, are coming up to town. Some offer another aesthetic that first the current style of Gen Z and Gen Alpha as they are now the customers of these coffee shops and cafes.
Back in the day, minimalist and brutalism were the aesthetic of these coffee shops. Every one of them shares a similar aesthetic that they spiced up the place as if we were traveling to tropical paradise. These days, long gone are spaces like that. Itโs all now replaced with retro, jazz, and vintage vibe. Almost every place is simply identical, decorated with Vinyls and low dim light with darker earth tone with bold and round fonts surrounding the compound.
The other day, I got the chance to visit and sampled one of the new coffee shops in town called โArteโ. The interior has a jazzy vibe to it with low dim lights as well as vintage decorated areas. It has this distinct accent from other coffee shops that recently opened.
These days, to survive in the coffee industry, even a place alone isnโt enough to keep customers coming back. Pricing and taste now also matter compared to the past as the competition is getting fiercer. But I have to say that this coffee shop looks more like an Art Gallery than a place to sip your favorite coffee.
I tried taking a few snapshots of the place and almost every corner of its indoor area looks like a photo studio. I wished I had my camera at that moment but my friend and I were simply trying it with our phone and the pictures were coming out nicely without that much heavy lifting.
From this coffee shop, I also learned that when you know a good color combination, palette, and even placement of items that just look right, they really beautify the space. I also notice that the color of many of the newest coffee shops in town is back to monochrome and typically combines a few shades that complement each other.
This space makes me want to change the color tone of my home to this since it would do well with the overall dim aesthetic that I love. It exudes warmth and comfort.
