Fairy Magic
There came to pass a fearsome storm
and the roses withered and the leaves were torn
The wrath of evil twisted its vicious thorn
to smother magic and laughter and make the fairies forlorn.
Hope faded pale, to tones of gray
and kindness lost its hue and sway.
Darkness rubbed the earth’s colors to black.
The wilderness encroached and all time lost track.
No blade of grass lifted a tender head
No antelope grazed,
No butterflies breathed,
or fluttered fragile wings.
No wild cats roamed or
rolled or played.
The mines had ravaged the stones underfoot.
Blasting at sea, the dolphins and whales for oil, overlooked.
The wind blew hot, and then it blew cold.
Man had flooded the world for comfort, for riches, for gold.
The fairies were weak, their wands bent and shorn,
but they knew their duty to bring on the dawn.
With effort they labored to paint the sky blue,
Then with teamwork a spectacular rainbow they drew.
The rain spluttered, but then it fell
and the rivers and streams washed the land brand new .
In the deepest corner, under clumps and sand
a seed was nourished, fed and taught to stand.
The fairies rejoiced, they danced and they sang
The world they’d renewed, was lush and with bird song it rang.
The only thing they remembered to do, to make the world safe
to lock in the magic and make it hold fast,
was to cast a spell against humans, so that nature would flourish at last.
