I have a few - two, maybe three - records from this interesting looking Cairophon record label. These were included in a large bundle of records that I received sometime last year.
The Cairophon label was, perhaps obviously, based in Cairo. It was founded in the 1930's, though rose to prominence in the 1940's. According to discogs.com it was the "largest locally-owned record company in Egypt" in the 1950's.
Sadly, I do not read Egyptian, so I'm at the mercy of Google Translate to help me read the label.
Before 33 rpm records and their wonderful album art became widespread, 78rpm record labels were sold in these sleeves which, really, are just as interesting and artistic as any other album cover.
Of course the sleeve is printed in Egyptian as well. Google Translate had a really interesting time with this.
At least the address of the record label came through.
If anyone reads Egyptian and is willing to translate for me, please let me know!
