Los post que aspiro publicar tendrán tema variado, pero el deporte jugara un papel primordial. Sobre una de las gestas más emocionantes del futbol moderno, protagonizada por un club pequeño, les hablaré hoy.
Estamos situados en la temporada 2015-2016 y un equipo sin una gran historia, sin un gran presupuesto y sin una plantilla colmada de estrellas, fue capaz de ganar la liga, contra todo pronóstico. El nombre del club es Leicester City, pero los fanáticos les han llamado siempre los “the foxes” (los zorros en español).
El Leicester City fue fundado en 1884, no obstante en su peregrinar por el futbol inglés, sus resultados nunca habían sido sobresalientes. Escasos títulos mostraban las vitrinas del club, cuando a 132 años de su nacimiento, se produjo su momento más glorioso. Habían ascendido de Segunda División en la temporada 2014-2015 y llevaban un actuar tan inestable, que en el momento final de la temporada (jornada 30) estaban en último lugar de la tabla, sin embargo, el equipo tuvo un repunte épico en esas jornadas finales, y obtuvo los puntos necesarios que le permitieron sostenerse un año más en la Premier.

Desde los primeros partidos se vio que este Leicester estaba en una forma espectacular, y cada jornada los veíamos salir triunfantes, frente al rival que fuese. Algunos decían, no tienen presión, están en forma, pero es una carrera larga y ellos no tienen equipo para ganar una competición de 38 fechas, por encima de Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, pero pasaban las semanas y nadie detenía a los hombres de Ranieri. Llego un momento, en que solo parecía que el Totenham podría hacerles algo de competencia, pero fue en vano, era el año de los zorros y nadie le quitaría el título de la liga por primera vez en su larga historia.
Leicester no tenía estrellas, pero si hombres que jugaron a un fantástico nivel, como el portero danes Schmeichel, el defensa austriaco Fuchs, el centrocampista francés Kante (futura estrella), y los atacantes Mahrez (argelino), Okazaki (japonés) y Jamy Vardy (ingles).El mérito de su entrenador Claudio Rainieri, estuvo en darle la calma y la confianza suficiente a sus jugadores, para no perder nunca la concentración y lograr un premio completamente inesperado.
Hoy “los zorros” pasan por horas bajas, y se encuentran disputando la segunda división en Inglaterra, pero aquella hazaña de hace diez años, será recordada por siempre.
