First of all, this is no financial advice, but an attempt to put my own musings on the current Splinterlands card market on paper. Despite the rather compelling title of this blog, I recommend that you do your research yourself and make choices based on that.
Yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to see what the average value of the cards of a Chaos Legion pack was. This without including the costs of potions, the benefits of airdrop cards and any discounts when buying large quantities of cards.
A Chaos Legion Pack costs $4. In a Chaos Legion Pack there are five cards and looking at the probability of finding a certain card in a pack and the price of such a card gives a Chaos Legion Pack $3.20. In short, so…
…everything is on sale!
So you could say that the cards currently on the market are too cheap and that if you want to expand your decks it is better to just buy your needed cards on the market. Well, in my opinion that applies at least to Chaos Legion cards. Sure, you can win the lottery and find that rare gold foil card in a pack from the store, but the reverse is also too often true. Most Chaos Legion packs just contains trash.
What I do.
So I'm now buying a lot of cards that I think should be worth the multiple in the future. In addition, I like the game and I try to improve my decks as well and that works well in the current market. I see plenty of opportunities passing by and if you respond smartly you can build a nice deck, try out new strategies and have even more fun with Splinterland.
Investing in unopened packs doesn't seem very useful to me anyway at this moment. There is still plenty of time to buy, the price will remain $4 and if you wanted to enjoy all the airdrops you should have bought your packs earlier during the first 24 hours of the general sale. I also don't think prices will go up as much as for example the Untamed packs, because there are simply too many people who keep their packs for this purpose.
Of course, none of this is a guarantee that Chaos Legion card prices will ever go back to $4 per pack. I think that the prices of Chaos Legion cards will remain low for the time being and that the prices will fall a little furthet for a while. But most probably the Chaos Legion packs will sell out one day, and then prices will go up again and then you'll have to wait until the next major release to come across opportunities you see today.
I'm also really curious about your thoughts on this topic, so please let me know in the comments.
