Another week, another town hall in the books! This past one was exciting as Matt came on to share some alpha on SPS Staking and Guilds for further down the road. NFTy Arcade also came on to talk about the initial results from their partnership with .
As a reminder this is not a full summary, just my 5 biggest takeaways. Let's jump in:
SPS Staking
This was the major alpha that Matt brought to the town hall as we finally got some hard numbers to map out what SPS staking requirements would look like once they replaced CP. Now with that said, these are not 'hard requirements'. Anybody can play at any league they want but they will not earn the max rewards or any multipliers if they are below certain thresholds. Personally, even though I was a bit surprised with how high some of the numbers scaled at higher leagues, I actually like how the chart is looking. It encourages those who are more serious to stake more and allows for casual players to still earn with relatively small stakes that they can organically grow in Bronze/Silver. Having Champ players also buy into the ecosystem is going to be a good thing, because these will be the most hardcore supporters. And ultimately, with SPS delegations here now and rentals coming up soon, I highly doubt it will cost much to rent large amounts of SPS - unless of course we hit a bull run and SPS moons but at that point we'll have other (hopefully good) problems.
Here is the chart Matt shared:
Guilds
We all know new buildings will be coming to Guilds at some point in the future, and we know they'll require staking of vouchers and packs along with DEC burns - but the game side of things is going to get a major revamp as well which sounds very exciting. There will be a revamp to the leaderboard which will factor in much more than just the sum of every guild member's rating as well as EOS rewards of some kind for guilds. This makes complete sense because Guilds are involved in actual competition with one another and ranking them based on member rating vs the actual brawls they compete against one another with seemed so irrelevant. As much as I love the economy changes, I think the gameplay changes will add a fun new element to keep hardcore players engaged.
NFTy Arcade
Tyler from joined the talk about some of the results so far from their partnership with Splinterlands. Here are the quick numbers: $20 in revenue, only 20% of decks being used, 150-200 new players, and less than 8k SPS paid out. It's not a home run, but it's not nothing either. Keep in mind with all of the attrition and players selling off, the real player base may be in the hundreds or maybe low thousands. Adding in 200 players is significant from a percentage standpoint, and you never know how much value they can add over the long run. Overall, I'd like to see this partnership continue especially when the crypto market starts heating up. The one silver lining is they have 5 guilds who are taking a long time to onboard, so I'd like to see how those go before making any other evaluation.
Energy System Update
Matt had teased this before but gave a little more info this time around. Nothing is set in stone, but from what he shared we can expect unlimited energy purchases (as opposed to only 50 additional/day) but with scaled pricing the more you buy. This allows for people to play as much as they want but disincentives through higher costs rather than creating a cap. I like this approach better and hope it is implemented soon.
- New Game Mode
Lastly, our favorite WeirdBeard came on to talk about the status and timelines of many of the projects the team are currently working on but did sneak in a bit of alpha about a new game mode that is actively in the works as well. This game mode will involve 'drafting' of some kind but that was the only hint we got. I'm excited to learn more about it and even more excited that it is actually in progress rather than just an idea and hope it can be something implemented quickly after we get land 1.5.
