Battles with a Bit of Banter
in response to Splinterlands's "Share your Battle": Wood Nymph
I'll admit my trist with Wood Nymph is recent. She has a special alure that I didn't fully appreciate before. Wood's soft regenerative touch and, well, smokin bod produce produce purple sparks for me others can't match. While we're at it, let's not mention that new "River" imposter. She might as well just keep to cleanning.
Before the arrival of Obsidian, my main thoughts on earth was "not another Mylor" quickly followed by "When will I get enough DEC to buy Mylor?." Then almost immediately, "Nevermind, lets get back to Alric." As soon as I saw the Chaos Legion test-server videos and we got confirmation that earth would give into it's Alric envy, Wood Nymph was short-list to be added to the Atom-Smash team. Unfortunately I missed a few of her friends, but we'll get to that in a moment.
Playing in Bonze and Silver, magic is often a strong choice, though less powerfull than it was. Unlike some wanna-be healers <glares at Crustacean, Devine>, Wood has a good attack for mana at low levels and a great attack with Obsidean. That new Goblin Psychic may try to attack attention, but doubling up on Wood and Khemr is hard to beat. I guess if theres the mana getting in all three makes for powerful purple bang.
In reality, I prefer not to think of Wood with others, buy she gets along well with a few others. A good burly unicorn of a tank, a silencing mushroom and sneaky goblin make a great team. Take this battle, outnumbered with faster opponents Wood and friends pull out an easy win.

Win with full health at the end
Usually I wouldn't put Wood in the second position. If the noble mustang is taken out, there's not much to stand in the way of a total blowout. I keep telling Wood, "I appreciate your outfit, but how hard is it to try a little armor for battle?" Silence is buried deep to keep the debuf and the goblin provide some protection from sneak, but we were lucky they didn't bring sneak.
The goblin makes quick work of the back-end damage dealer and Wood takes care of the scratches up front. You can't complain about a match where the whole team ends at full health. Silence didn't do much here, but 3 magic damage is more than enough to keep the 'shroom employed. I guess the mustang wasted a lot of effort on shields, but the strategy still works if melee ruffians are barred from battle.

Obsidian-Wood team: Tank, heals, debuf, sneak. Magic all around
Here silence pays off as Wood's psychic successor struggles to overcome higher damage and a backline attack. Ultimately, the mystic is left to fed for herself and Wood sends the final puff. Combining a tank, healing, debuf, and sneak is a killer combination in any match, but to do so with each hitting hard is a team few could beat at these low levels. It's really to bad I didn't have the foresight to pick up Wood's friends back when they were easy.
I am left with a bit of a dilemma. Soon Wood will be banished from modern play and relegated to the wilds. With only a few old-timers on team Atom-Smash, surviving the wild could be a challenge. I don't know if Wood will understand, but she may not be worth building a whole beta deck for. The affair was short, but I'll always remember those purple sparks.
I guess I did pick up River Nymph too. Wood doesn't need to know. River's just for those rare poisonous events I would rather avoid. Come to think of it, too bad we can't do Wood and River at the same time.
