Hi!
To those of you who have read and liked my Unforgettable Untamed series, I have some sad news. I've decided to end that for the simple reason, I feel like I have now covered all of my favorite Untamed monsters.
Now on with the new one! The idea is very simple: Each week I will use my Splinterlands post earnings and buy a pack from either Chaos Legion or Riftwatchers editions, open the pack, pick a card, and take it straight to the battlefield. In these posts, I'll be covering the traits of the card, how it fits in with different tactics, and what I've learned from it.
Also, I will be giving away the card starring in the post! More about that at the end of this article. So, let's do this!
Pack Opening
I was pretty excited to get my hands on one of these again. It has been a while since I have bought and opened a pack but I can still remember the excitement and the sight and sound of a shaking card. Or the flash when it turns golden! So let's get it open:
Ok! No legendary or Gold Foil cards BUT to me, this was a pretty damn good pack. Epic Forgotten One, two Rare cards, Goblin Tower and a summoner, Kelya Frendul. Very happy with this one!
So, the very first pick to star in my Fresh From The Pack, Straight To The Battle series is Goblin Tower!
In the games I've played, this structure is probably the least used out of these five so it's nice to get to know it and its traits a little better. I don't know if I was just lucky but it honestly didn't take me long to find a perfect example battle in which Goblin Tower really gets to show its strength.
First, let's take a closer look at the teams:
MY TEAM
Instead of my go-to Earth splinter summoner, Obsidian, I chose FERNHEART for this one. Before the pack opening, I had been using his Close Range ability for another strategy of mine. For this particular battle, however, I chose him because of his +1 health buff.
My strategy is to use all available measures to keep my tank alive as long as possible. Fernheart will help me with that by providing more health to my tank and other units as well.
Only the hero of the day, Goblin Tower, could perhaps benefit from Close Range buff if it would end up in the front spot.
The ultimate tank, FLESH GOLEM, would have been an even more aggressive Melee fighter but his level was reduced to 3 because of my summoners level.
Nevertheless, this guy still packs a punch. He's pretty fast(3), able to do moderate damage(2) and now at level 3, he actually has more health(10)!
The best trait this monster has is his Heal ability. That means he will regenerate once in each round. This will make him the cornerstone of my defense strategy. Also, to follow my plan to keep him standing where he is till the end, I've got another ace in my sleeve...
BRAMBLE PIXIE is surprisingly slow as I always thought pixies would have been fast. Despite this and the fact that it costs 7 mana points, there are no bad things to say about this insect.
Using her Reach ability she can do some serious damage to the enemy tank with an impressive Melee attack strength(3).
This creature also has really good stamina so she'll continue to be a thorn in the opponent's side for quite a while.
Behind the strong Melee units, there is a good spot to place a more fragile magic monster. Slow GOBLIN PSYCHIC won't be the first in line to attack but once it does, it will deal decent 2-point magic damage.
When I mentioned that ace in my sleeve I was referring to this Goblin Psychics Tank Heal ability. This means he will be healing the already self-healing Flesh Golem so the golem regenerates his health twice in a round! Good luck with bringing him down!
Having only 4 health points, Goblin Psychic is vulnerable to opponents' Sneak attacks but otherwise, he should pretty safe there in the middle.
If Flesh Golem is the biggest part of my defense, then I would say GOBLIN TOWER is the spearhead of my offensive strategy.
On level 3 it has a ranged attack strength of impressive 3 points and that's not all. Goblin Towers come with a Blast ability that will send shrapnel to hit those next to the target monster. If my opponent isn't prepared for this, it can really hurt those more vulnerable units behind the tank.
By the looks of it, Goblin Tower is a shaky structure that could collapse at any second. That is also to be seen in the stats. Even though it has armor(3), its health is still pretty low(4). Despite that, I decided to trust its armor to hold enough and put it in the last spot to deal that damage.
Perhaps the biggest threat to Goblin Tower would be a magic monster with Snipe or Sneak ability.
Opponent Team
One card I use very often myself, OBSIDIAN, was chosen to be my opponent's summoner for this battle.
I'm pretty pleased that I didn't go with the strategy that relies on using armor but instead chose the "heal your tank" one. That is because Obsidian will give +1 magic to all her magic monsters and that would make all armors pretty useless.
And yes, there are magic units but let's check out a couple of Melee ones.
MYCELIC INFANTRY is a strong tank unit with Shield ability. Because of that, our Melee and Ranged units will reduce damage to this monster.
Only unit on my team which is able to fully penetrate both Shield and Armor(3) is Goblin Psychic.
Behind the tank wanders MYCELIC MORPHOID, unable to do anything from this position, and without the Thorns ability(available on level 3) it shouldn't pose a threat.
KHMER PRINCESS and ELVEN MYSTIC are pretty similar monsters. At first look, their stats don't look that great but with Obsidians +1 magic buff they can mean business.
They are lurking in the middle and therefore are quite hard to reach which can mean they get to attack round after round.
Enemy GOBLIN PSYCHIC is positioned exactly in the same spot as mine so unfortunately, he will probably also spend a lot of time at the arena.
REGAL PERYTON is yet another magic monster on this magical team. The fast creature which is known to be hard to hit because of its Flying ability.
Enter The Arena
Today we have a 30-mana battle with standard rules. All the summoner buffs have been revealed. Our monster's health has increased while their unit's magic power seems pretty intimidating. Seems like our tank has quite a ride ahead of him!
However, this battle is about the Goblin Tower so thumbs up for it, I'm sure they do well!
The Battle
To watch how our fresh from the pack wooden tower did when things got real and there were Reward Points and SPS at stake, click HERE! Or you can continue to read my battle report down below.
ROUND 1
Aggressive attacking both sides as well as some serious healing and then...blast! Goblin Tower hits the tank taking off its armor and sending a ricochet to Mycelic Morphoid and ending its battle before it even begins.
ROUND 2
Despite all the healing, both tank monsters were pretty worn out. When it came to our Tower's turn, they did it again! After Morphoids demise Khmer Princess had taken its place only to be killed by the Towers blast shrapnel.
Just after that, Mycelic Infantry won the battle of tanks and took out Flesh Golem. Well, I might have been too cocky when I said good luck with bringing him down...
However, this still turned out to be a good round for us. Bramble Pixie, our vice tank, thought it was payback time and put Mycelic Infantry away to end the round.
ROUND 3
Both healer units were still at play and doing their thing. The uncomfortable tank position of the opponents' team now belonged to Elven Mystic. Even though he was healed once, his base health is only 3 points and he was now about to face the dreaded Goblin Tower.
Elven Mystic was taken out with a single shot, a shot that also damaged the enemy healer who now had to step up to the first position. That didn't last long because he was swept aside by Bramble Pixie.
ROUND 4
Only Regal Peryton was left on the opponent team facing Bramble Pixie, Goblin Psychic, and Goblin Tower. It was obvious that we were not going to see round 5.
Conclusion
Goblin Tower was absolutely amazing in this battle! I remember seeing battles like these from it before and now I'm wondering, why don't I pick it more often? I guess the main issue is its low health. And a pretty high mana cost. Also, I think many users prefer the magic monster and Obsidian over Ranged and Melee when playing Earth.
I think Goblin Tower could go very with Fernheart as a summoner. I have to do some further testing but I do believe it could benefit from the Close Range buff as well.
Goblin Tower is on sale for only $0.071 at the moment which I think is a bargain. For me, this could be one of those monsters to put on the upgrade list!
