Splinterlands is a card building game. (Quite similar to hearthstone but take away the "chess fights", you just build your deck and arrange them and done!)
There are 2 kinds of cards in the game:
2a. Summoner = Main hero with ability which affect either you or your opponent monsters.

2b. Monsters = Characters use in your "chess fights"
Monsters have 4 main stats (Attack, Health, Armor, Speed) and some have ability.

3a. Choose a summoner.
3b. Choose up to 6 monsters. [Depend on the mana given]
3c. Rank them accordingly.
3d. Fight!
