Damour's weekly breakdown of the Battle mage secrets
CHALLENGE RULES
RULESET: Holy Protection
Description:
All units gain the Divine Shield ability which reduces the damage of the first attack received to 0.
Divine Shield will be re-applied when a unit is Resurrected.
Any damage including Blast damage will remove Divine Shield.
- Monsters that normally have this ability do not get it twice.
- The trick to win in this ruleset is to fill all 6 slots of your line up
- Use a monster or summoner that has Resurrect to increase its maximum potential.
- Use monsters with Blast or Double Strike.
Ruleset Nerfs
| Rulesets that don't support | Reasons |
|---|---|
| Taking away your shield in the first round on all monsters totally counters this ruleset | |
| Taking away your shield in the first round on all monsters totally counters this ruleset | |
| Takes away any armor benefit. |
Ruleset Buffs
| Rulesets that support | Reasons |
|---|---|
| Having high armor will help you absorb some extra damage. | |
| Allows for multiple re-applications of the Holy Protection allowing your minions to do that much more damage combine with resurrect to take this to the next level. |
Monsters breakdown
Buffs
Resurrect
Allowing you to re-apply the Holy Shield for extra protection..
Shield/Void
Shield reduces the damage from melee or ranged attacks while the Void reduces the damage from the magic attacks.
Blast
Blast can hit more than one monster at a time allowing for removal of the holy protection that much quicker.
Double strike
double strike again allowing you to hit multiple times in one round doing more damage and getting rid of Holy shield that much faster.
Nerfs
Headwinds/Demoralize/Silence
You can still survive longer if you can reduce the damage from the opponent's attack. Abilities like Demoralize, Headwinds, or Silence reduces the melee, ranged, and magic damage respectively will help you achieve this strategy this will be an ideal way to hurt their damage output.
Summoners breakdown
| Summoners buffs | Reasons |
|---|---|
| Summoners that give speed | Dealing damage first can often be the difference between winning or losing. |
| Kelya | Having speed as mentioned above is great but the added armor here has many benefits. |
| Lux | Same reasons as Kelya with the added bones of some more health as well. |
| Grandmaster Rathe | Giving everyone void armor can be particularly difficult to get through regardless of the damage type. |
| Immortalis | Giving everyone shatter can be painful for opponents who have gone with armor plays. |
| Astral Entity | Taking away some of that armor protection your opponent is bringing. |
| Summoners nerfs | Reasons |
|---|---|
| Lorna Shine | Wasted opportunity using her as you already are getting the benefit she offers from the ruleset. |
If you can think of any more please let me know.
Without further delay lets dig into a battle to see some of our recommendations in action.
While I would never recommend any of the untamed summoners as I find them to costly. It does not take away from their power. The top player chose to go with Yodin Zaku here using that blast to it's full potential. The bottom player has gone with Thadius brood.
In very short order the blast gets rid of the holy protection shields and can get down to the bossiness of killing minions for the victory.
