Whatever it was, those who survived the sickness were changed. They mutated, grew stronger, and were filled with an uncontrollable rage. Some were unable to control that rage and went on murderous rampages. Others fought to maintain their sanity long enough to protect their family, friends, and neighbors from themselves. They fled into the Jade Thicket, where they became as feral as the wild animals of the continent.
Hi everyone, welcome back to my Splinterlands weekly battle challenge. This week we have Radiated Brute as our main theme. This is one of important monster in Chaos Legion pack, however I don't like this monster. I will explain later why It's not suit my strategy, but first.. Let see our battle preparation...
Battle Preparation
- Heavy Hitter ~ All Monsters have the Knock Out ability.
- Reverse Speed ~ Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
- 26 MANA This is the challenge, I don't think I could or I should build a team of 6 monsters.
The first ruleset, Heavy Hitter, wasn't important. I was on Silver League, I haven't encountered any monsters with Stun Ability. Second Ruleset was the most important one, the Reverse Speed. I wouldn't even bother to use Radiated Brute if I didn't have Reverse Speed ruleset. The last headache was 26 mana. I could bring 6 monsters but I thought better I brought less with a good coordination and strategy.
One thing that made me happy, there wasn't any option for Death and Earth Elements. There wouldn't be any Mylor or Cursed Windeku, because thorn could quickly kill Radiated Brute.
So here was my simple lineup:
| Position | Card | Ability | Plan and Strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summoner | Yodin Zaku | +1 range, +1 Health, Blast | Yodin, as the strongest Fire Summoner, was the core of my strategy. My plan was simple, I would bring many 1 speed monsters and all of them would deliver blast damage |
| Main Tank | Living Lava | Shield | One of everyone's favorite tanks in Fire Element. I needed his Shield Ability and it's 3 Melee Damage because it would be a good blast attack |
| Second | Radiated Brute | Reach | Our Main actor for this week. I needed his 2 Melee damage with a Reach Ability. He would help Living Lava fighting opponent tanks |
| Third | Xenith Archer | none | Part of Yodin Blasting Range Attackers |
| Fourth | Halving Alchemist | Halving | Part of Yodin Blasting Range Attackers, He would reduce opponent tank's melee damage |
| Fifth | Lava Spider | Snipe | Part of Yodin Blasting Range Attackers, Lava Spider is a good meat wall too |
So my strategy is having Living Lava as the shield, Radiated Brute acts as pikemen, and I put 3 archers behind and they would keep sending blast damage to my opponents. I refer Radiated Brute as Pikemen due to his Reach ability. He attacks from behind, and individually he means nothing more than a support for the frontline.
HERE COMES THE BATTLE!!!
If you want to see the battle directly, you can see it directly here:

It was a Fire vs Life, this battle should be an interesting one. Overall I lost in level, Opponent's team had better level than mine. However I used Yodin as my summoners. As we all know, all untamed legendary summoners are Over Powered.
Round 1
- The game started as both party buffing and debuffing their monsters and opponent's monsters.
- My opponent had a total 6 Melee damage, 1 magic damage and 3 range damage. Combined all, in a turn he would deliver 10 damages.
- I had 5 melee damage and 6 range damage, combined it became 11 damage per turn. I had the lead here.
- This round ended with I had their chicken sent to the nearest Colonel Sanders Outlet
Round 2
- The blast damage keep hurting my opponents. They lost Dr. Blight and Cave slug this turn
Round 3
- I lost my living lava due to Dr. Blight Poison
- My Halving Alchemist killed their Chain Golem. It's all over.
Round 4-5
- Waiting till their Cyclops died
Battle Discussion
- Based on the monsters, my opponent had better ones. If we have no ruleset battle, I should have lost badly.
- There are 2 decisive points that make my opponent lost badly. First was my strategy using blast attacks. They lost Dr. Blight from the blast.
- Second reason was he failed to maximize Reverse Speed Ruleset. His main hitter, Cave Slug, died first and that made his strategy crumbled.
INSIGHT ON RADIATED BRUTE
Based on the stats above, we can see that Radiated Brute is a good monster. He isn't special, well he is a common rarity monster so we can't expect more. Usually I will start telling people the pros and cons about the monster, but this time I will do this differently because I don't like Radiated Brute. I have 2 major reason for this
Low Level Radiated Brute Kills Your Team
Low level Radiated Brute has a low speed. His speed becomes decent after he gets level 4. There isn't anything wrong if you put a slow monster, every monster has it's weakness, however if you put 2 or more slow monsters, it becomes big problem. You can't have a slow team, it's like being a punching bag for your opponent
Fire element has many great tank, I set 3 of them above. Those 3 are everyone favorites, each is one of the strongest. The bad thing is that they have one weakness in common, SPEED. Like it or not, you should not bring anymore slow monsters into the team, especially slow one such as low level Radiated Brute.
You can argue that there is a Reverse Speed Ruleset that can change 180 degree the whole situation of this speed issue. I agree on that, that's the same issue I have shown on my battle challenge above. However it doesn't change the fact that without that ruleset, slow Radiated Brute is quite useless
This is a Half Ass Monster
I know this sounds harsh and rude, but I do think this monster is a half-ass one. First the stats, as we can see it grows more speed later, actually Radiated Brute Health Point doesn't grow at all. It starts at 5 and at max level it becomes 6. I don't take that 1 health point in 9 levels is a growth
Health point becomes a major issue if you want to exploit its Enrage Ability. If a monster only have 6 health point, maybe it will die first before delivering some massive blow. Diemon Shark is a good exemplary how a good Enrage monster should be, good health point and massive armors.
Sometime I think most player think brute is good due to Tarsa +1 melee attack boost only. I hope I am wrong, you can enlight me in comment below.
We still need Radiated Brute
This is the hard fact, whether we like or dislike Radiated Brute, we still need this monsters. With the new modern format introduced, we have to use and level up almost all Chaos Legion monsters including this one. There are a couple Reach Ability monsters which are better but I think most of us will turn them down after seeing their price.
These two don't have speed issue, if buying has a price issue, maybe renting these cards can be a good option.
