BATTLE LINK -- January 20, 2025 -- Day 20 of 365 vs.
Today I'm back with Day 2 action from the most lucrative tournament of the 
Here's my favorite battle of the bunch, a 49-mana contest with three rulesets: Broken Arrows, Healed Out, and Are You Not Entertained? Only two elements were available, Death and Dragon, so I felt like choosing a Dragon summoner was a slam dunk.
Curiously, my opponent chose the Death conscript summoner when we were already able to play a Gladiator... and then didn't bother to play even one of them! It must have been a card availability issue because even running Astral Entity for its rust and dodge abilities would have been a game-changer for them. My opponent's potent sneak attack tore through Venka and Vruz, who didn't do much heavy lifting in this battle.
My featured card in this battle is the Death legendary Gladiator, Xulax Nightwind, who did plenty of heavy lifting. Despite this being a Diamond League event, this powerful Gladiator hung in there at Level 2. It's a complete package and an impressive tank, so why not take the opportunity to play with the battle rulesets? It is arguably, Death's best Gladiator!
Akane showed just how awful its Ambush tactic can be with hidden information. I gave the early attack to Venka and Rage, who both got blanked by Arkemis' forcefield. But Rage's weapon training came through in a big way, as my opponent didn't have many answers to the onslaught of magic attacks.
Xulax benefited from cleanse to wipe away the halving from Arkemis to continue beating down round after round. Despite my backline getting destroyed by their sneak attack, Xulax and Rage did the thing and brought home the W. It was an easy win to start the 2nd day against a deck that clearly wasn't operating at full strength and it let me show off a shiny Level 2 GFL Gladiator. I'll take it (and that juicy 2K SPS prize)!
