Specifically, my current objective is to calculate real progress and determine how close this opening session left me to completing the remaining 64,000 Merits I need to reach my goal. One of the most logical paths in the current game economy is to go to the rewards shop and spend our Glints on Ultimate Chests, known for housing large sums of Merits. However, chance in Splinterlands chests always holds surprises, and in this article, we will analyze with mathematical precision the results, the theoretical probabilities versus the reality of my account, and a surprising finding of efficiency when comparing Ultimate Chests with Major Chests.

Before showing what was obtained in my chests, it is essential to sit down with pencil and paper to understand what we are facing. The official statistics of Splinterlands stipulate that Ultimate Chests have a 15% probability of containing Merits.

If we apply this mathematical constant to a closed lot of 30 Ultimate Chests, theory tells us that the exact average appearance should be 4.5 chests rewarded with this resource. Since we cannot open half a chest in the game, I structured my projections using two realistic scenarios based on variance: a pessimistic framework of 4 chests and an optimistic framework of 5 chests. Knowing that each Ultimate Chest configured with Merits grants a minimum of 1,000 and a maximum of 3,000 Merits, these were my statistical expectations:

Of course, this is a strictly statistical and linear calculation. In Splinterlands, there is always the latent risk of suffering a streak of terrible luck and falling below the minimum, or conversely, spending all the month's luck in a single afternoon to break the algorithm and pull out more than 5 rewarded chests.

When averaging the complete experience, the cold numbers demonstrate that my luck was notably below the theoretical average. Instead of the 4 or 5 chests dictated by the 15% probability, I only obtained 3 chests with Merits in a total of 30 attempts. Fortunately, the individual amounts of those three chests were relatively high, which left me with a grand accumulated total of 6,727 Merits. Although I surpassed the floor of the worst mathematical scenario thanks to the value of the drops, the appearance frequency left me wanting.

After exhausting my options with the Ultimate chests, I decided to change my strategy and give the Major Chests a chance. I began opening them consecutively until completing a total of 48 Major Chests. To my surprise, the luck that I had lacked in the first round manifested here, granting me a very striking accumulation of 4,028 Merits.

This finding is highly interesting and deserves a deep technical analysis. Just like the Ultimates, Major Chests maintain the same base 15% appearance probability for Merits in each slot. The fundamental difference lies in the fact that Major Chests grant a smaller amount of Merits per individual chest due to their lower rarity scale. However, when we analyze this from the perspective of Glints cost per resource earned, the outlook changes drastically.

For Splinterlands players, the numbers from this opening reveal an optimization factor that the community must keep very much in mind when managing their monthly Glints. Let us do the real mathematical comparison based on shop costs:

The analysis of the table is blunt. To acquire the 30 Ultimate Chests, a massive investment of 300,000 Glints is required, managing to harvest 6,727 Merits. On the other hand, when acquiring the 48 Major Chests, the outlay was just 120,000 Glints, managing to extract the remarkable figure of 4,028 Merits.

Basically, by spending only 40% of the Glints on Major Chests compared to what was invested in the Ultimates, I obtained around 60% of the total Merits. This demonstrates that, due to the lower acquisition cost per unit of the Major Chests, the volume of attempts you can purchase allows you to cushion the algorithm's bad luck streaks much better, making opening Major Chests a substantially more cost-effective option for the pockets of Merit hunters.
Básicamente, gastando tan solo el 40% de los Glints en los Major Chests en comparación con lo invertido en los Ultimate, obtuve cerca del 60% de los Merits totales. Conclusion
Summing both efforts (6,727 from the Ultimates and 4,028 from the Majors), this session left me with a total loot of 10,755 Merits. While I still have a significant stretch to cover the 64,000 Merits I need for my goal of 100 Gladiator packs, this experiment has left me with an invaluable lesson. From now on, I will restructure my season redemption strategy, focusing primarily on clearing out the efficient batches of Major Chests before blindly jumping to the expensive Ultimate Chests.
