Hello, my dear Splinterlanders Fam,
How are you today? I hope you're doing great.
Those who reach this post, I wish you a good day.
Another Riftwatchers airdrop, the Kain Hace, took place on 09/11/2022. The Kain Hace is a legendary death monster.
The required number of RW purchases for a guaranteed card airdrop was 200.
I bought 50 RW packs, so I wasn't sure about getting this card airdropped in my account. But I got surprised that one Kain Hace is airdropped in my account.
It's hooping $18 addition to my card collection. It was a thrilling experience that made my day.
Moving forward, in the ' Card In Spotlight ' series, I review the best and undervalued cards of the Splinterlands. This is the fourth edition and you can read the other three editions here -
*Edition 1: Card In Spotlight : Baakjira | This Ancient Beast Is The Ultimate Tank Of The Water Splinter.
*Edition 2: Card In Spotlight : RIFTWING | Kill This Monster If You Can.
*Edition 3: Card In Spotlight : GRUND | Here Comes Grund The Ultimate Tank Destroyer Of The Spilterlands.
In this edition, I'll discuss a summoner from the Life splinter which provides the friendly team the unique 'divine shield' ability.
Yes, you guessed it correctly, I'm talking about the LORNA SHINE.
I'll explain the best rulesets and use-cases to use Lorna Shine effectively.
I'll also share the best battle I fought and won using Lorna Shine as the summoner.
So without further ado, let's start.
THE LORE
The White Plains of Khymeria boast an extremely mild climate that allows for some Khymians to live in the elements throughout the year. Lorna Shine is one such Khymian. She wanders throughout the valley, visiting acquaintances and attending celebrations. Her skin is incredibly fair, no matter how much time she spends outdoors, and her red hair shines like a flame as she approaches from a distance at sunset. Lorna carries a huge sword on her back. When the sword is removed from its sheath for combat, it always does magnificent work.
Lorna has never much discussed it among her Khymian friends, but she has always felt a strong magical surge deep within her body. She knows that with proper training, and with the attention of the watchful Angels that protect her always, she has what it takes to become a formidable summoner in the Mount Mox tournament games. Lately, Lorna is ready for a new challenge, and something is calling her to combat. The arena awaits.
BATTLE STATS AND ABILITIES OF THE LORNA SHINE
Before I share my strategy and the battle, let's talk about the stats and abilities of this card.
The Lorna Shine is a rare life summoner from the Dice edition.
The level of the cards we can use in battle depends on the level of the summoner we use. You can see the chart in the above picture.
Lorna Shine provides her friendly team the 'divine shield' ability at the start of the battle. With this ability, the first time the Monster takes damage from a monster or earthquake it is ignored.
The Best Ways To Use Lorna Shine Effectively
Lorna provides her friendly team a very useful 'divine shield' ability. This ability turns battle-winning in certain rulesets and situations.
Let's explore the use cases of the Lorna Shine...
In the 'little league' ruleset
The 'divine shield' ability is equally useful in all rulesets, but it's most useful in the little league ruleset.
In the little league ruleset, we have a limited option to choose cards from. and those too within 4 mana cost.
In general, those cards have low health (there are few exceptions though). Thus, saving friendly monsters from the attack of the enemy team becomes very important.
With the 'divine shield' ability, the first attack is always neglected. Therefore, a lot of damage can be saved.
Useful cards to be used-
** Feral Spirit
** Stitch Leech
** Elven Cutthroat
**Uraeus
**Time Mage
**Failed Summoner
In low mana-cap battles
Just like the 'little league' ruleset, we have limited options to choose cards as we don't want to spend all the mana in one or two cards.
So we have to choose useful cards that are costs low mana. And low mana cards are generally low in health.
That's why protecting cards from enemy attack becomes equally important just like the 'little league' ruleset.
And the 'divine shield' ability helps to save a few attacks, thus the friendly team lasts long for a few more rounds.
Useful cards to be used-
**Silvershield Knight
**Dumacke Exile
** Feral Spirit
** Stitch Leech
** Elven Cutthroat
**Uraeus
**Time Mage
**Failed Summoner
In the 'back to basics' ruleset
In the 'back to basics' ruleset, monsters lose all their abilities. Therefore, to attack from the second line, you must use either the ranged attack monsters or the magic attack monsters.
A good strategy here is to use at least 4 magic attack monsters and one or two melee attack monsters with good health as a tank and put the highest magic attack monster in the last position to ensure attacking the enemy team till the final round.
As always, the 'divine shield ability helps to prevent a few attacks, and the friendly monsters survive a few extra rounds.
Useful cards to be used-
** Warrior Of Peace (as a tank)
** Djinn Renova
** Time Mage
** Blinding Reflector
** Thunderbird
** Defender Of Truth
** Peacebringer
In the 'earthquake' ruleset
In the 'earthquake' ruleset, each of the non-flying monsters gets 2 melee damage starting each round.
But with the 'divine shield' ability, it's ensured that the first 'earthquake' is always protected.
Apart from the above conditions and rulesets, the 'divine shield' ability is equally effective in all situations. Because saving an attack is equally important as making an attack and sometimes more.
Now, that we learned how to effectively use the Lorna Shine in various rulesets, it's time to apply those strategies in real-time.
THE BATTLE
RULESET
Mana Cap: 17
Rulesets:
Healed Out: All healing abilities are removed from monsters and summoners.
Heavy Hitters: All monsters have the knock-out ability.
Active Splinters: Fire, Earth, Life, Dragon.
My Strategy and Team Setup
As it was a mid-mana-cap battle, I immediately decide to use Lorna Shine as the summoner and her sneak attack army.
This is the team I created -
SUMMONER
Lorna Shine
TEAM SETUP
1st Position
Soul Fiend
Soul Fiend was placed in the first position as a soft tank to withstand the first few attacks so that my sneak team gets additional time to eliminate the enemy monster/s in the last position.
With 1 melee attack, it may deal little damage to the enemy team.
2nd Position
Feral Spirit
In the 2nd position, the Feral Spirit was placed.
It also has little health but is high in speed. So, it has a chance to evade the enemy attacks.
3rd Position
Stitch Leech
The main attacking monster, Stitch Leech was placed in the 3rd position.
Apart from the sneak attack it also has the 'life leech' ability that can help it to increase its health point after each successful attack on the enemy team.
4th Position
Time Mage
In the 4th position, I placed another very important monster, the Time Mage.
It has two very useful abilities, 'slow' and 'rust'. You can see below how these two abilities played an important part to win this battle.
5th Position
Creeping Ooze
I used the Creeping Ooze in the 5th position to make the enemy team slow further so that my monsters have a chance to attack first.
6th Position
Uraeus
In the last position, I placed the Uraeus. Its 1 armor helps to withstand at least one enemy attack and the 'poison' ability does additional damage to the enemy team if applied.
Let the battle begin...

Apart from this battle, I fought and won the following battles using the Lorna Shine as the summoner.
Key Points Of This Battle
Time Mage played the most vital role in this battle. Not only she slowed down the enemy team, but also debuff the summoner buff of +1 armor to the enemy team.
It could be difficult for my team to win this battle if they had to deal with this extra armor.
Rest the monsters work great as they are intended to function as sneak attack monsters.
Because of the speed advantage, my team attacked first and eliminated the enemy's Celestial Harpy before she can make an attack.
The 'divine shield' ability continue to block the first attack and thus ensure longer stability for my team.
With this perfect combination of summoner and monsters, I tasted win.
And that's all for today, guys.
