Hi All,
First of all, forgive me if I deliver a less than perfect post but this is my first time doing this. 😎
So, let me start by introducing myself and give you a bit of my background. I'm Boris, in my mid 30s, from Bulgaria. I've always been an avid gamer, and in particular, a big fan of Blizzard Entertainment. I've played tens of thousands of hours of everything from the original Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft to the current expansion of WoW. That also includes Hearthstone which I've been actively playing since beta. I also decided to enter the world of crypto almost an year ago, and I've been expanding my understanding of how things work and my crypto assets ever since.
This has eventually lead me to finally decide to "marry" these two interests of mine and actually try to enter the world of play to earn games. I'm sure you know that there is still a lot of stigma when it comes to such games among the "real" gamers, so I was also a bit skeptical if there was any game which would interest me but I figured that since I'd spent tons of hours (and not that much less money) on a card game such as Hearthstone (and I did get enjoyment (reaching the highest ranks in all formats basically) in return but nothing more, since I did have an almost full collection but it had no actual real value - all the cards are property of Blizzard Entertainment, selling your account is against ToS, and even if it weren't, I would never sell it as I have all their games with all of my progress in them on it), I should try a card collecting game which was on the blockchain and was both fun and engaging but was something more than just collecting cards for the sake of collecting. So after doing a bit of research, and also a recommendation of a close friend of mine, I decided to give Splinterlands a shot.
Well here I am a week later, and I can say it's been a fun experience so far and a bit intimidating. 😝
- My first season: So first time I logged into the game, I was utterly confused where to start but the tutorial was relatively helpful so that was good. Then I went over and bought a couple of packs, got my first legendary out of literally the first pack which was unexpected, and then I realized "oh shit, I'm gonna need a ton more power to advance". Of course I did what anyone else would do --> youtube --> "cheapest way to earn power in Splinterlands 2022". I came across videos by Luke Plays to Earn (about that later), Stever82, Bulldog1205, Dwayne Cunningham and came to the conclusion that I need to find the cheapest but most powerful cards to rent short term (as the season was ending in 3-4 days), and that was what I did. I bought like 10 more packs (got another legendary), and started my ladder journey. Every time I got really close to getting to the upper bracket I went back to rentals and rented just as much power as I needed to advance. The toughest to get out of were Bronze II and Silver II. Especially Silver II where I met my "arch nemesis" HOANGANH and his/her army of however many accounts cough, cough, as you can see by the screenshot below I was a bit upset with them at one point... 😁
After taking a bit more beating I figured out their botty ways and the Empire managed to fight back.. 😋
So the season finally came to an end, and after playing a bunch of games at almost non-existent DEC capture rate 😆, I landed in Silver 1 and got pretty good rewards as far as I'm concerned, so I think it was well worth it:
- I rarely win anything if ever, so I was pretty excited when I actually won something (I almost got a heart-attack (good thing I'm in a pretty good aerobic shape 😃). So I was saying earlier I checked out quite a few youtubers creating Splinterlands content and subbed to all of them so I can be on top of all the news and developments. But one of the guys in particular - Luke Plays to Earn has a very active channel, and a lot of live streams to which I've tuned in the last couple of days. So while I was spamming games after the reset and watching his 8-hour subathlon on my second monitor, I heard the following:
I was like OMG OMG, lol 😁 And the card I won was:
Thanks a lot, Luke! 😉
- And while Luke's subathlon was still on, I heard there was a tourney (hosted by clove71 about to start. I went to the Events tab and saw the entry was just 1 DEC, so I was like hey, I can afford that.. 😀 I paid the entry fee and waited for the tourney to start. I've actually participated in quite a few Hearthstone tourneys where I've had pretty good success so it was not something totally new to me but still I expected to lose 0:2 and end my adventure before it started... So the tourney commenced and here I was 2:0 after the first round:
Then the 2nd round came - I was 100% sure I would get knocked out this time around, but I somehow managed to pull a 3:1 win:
Check this game out, lol:
Game
I guess I could not have gotten luckier, eh? 🤣
And then Round 3 came...
This time around it was clear.... I was about to meet my maker... :D Surprisingly I managed to take the lead:
Game
But then things came into place and I lost 2:3 Well that was fun (I thought to myself) and went along my merry way trying to win some games in Bronze I after the reset (which is surprisingly hard) And then I saw my balance go from 150 DEC to 350 DEC. I was like wtf?! But soon after that I got a message that I had received 200 DEC from my tourney participation, I went back to the tourney page and to my surprise I had actually placed 35th with my overall score of 7:4, so that was quite a nice surprise (not the first one for the day 😁)
So this was my first week in the land of Splinterlands land..land.. 😝 Hopefully I will have some more fun stuff to share in the future. Thank you for having the patience to torture yourself to get to this part of the text - namely the conclusion. 😉
GhostlyBG, over and out..
P.S. it took me 3 days to gain enough RC to post this... 😁
