Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Underboss Fabino and Dread Tafarian.
Featured cards
Underboss Fabino is an earth archon/summoner that costs 5 mana. This card gives +2 melee damage to 2 monsters, or poison to one monster. Increasing its level only increases the level cap at which you can play cards. I have this card at level 2, so I can't use cards at a high level, but the additional options can be useful depending on your own lineup.
Dread Tafarian is an earth splinter that costs 9 mana. This splinter starts with the heal ability. This card doesn't learn any new abilities, but increasing its level will increase its stats.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan
The rulesets this time are Collateral Damage. This means that monstersgain the reckless ability. There is also 39 mana available, and I can use any splinter.
This ruleset is interesting, and it's one of my favorite new ones. I prefer to use monsters that can't attack, then outlast my opponent at the very end with a card that has heal.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Underboss Fabino | 5 | Summoner | +2 melee or poison |
| Giam Root | 9 | 1st | Strengthen |
| Dread Tafarian | 9 | 2nd | Heal |
| New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 3rd | Taunt |
| Lioceros | 7 | 4th | Thorns |
| Total Mana: | 38 |
My summoner is Underboss Fabino for the +2 melee damage. My tank is Giam Root with strengthen. My backup tank is Dread Tafarian with heal. New Beluroc Aegis has taunt and Lioceros has thorns.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while my opponent dies off due to the collateral damage. At the very start of the fight, I can't deal any damage, but that is exactly what I want. Underboss Fabino increases the damage of Dread Tafarian when it does move up to the front. This will allow it to finish off whatever is left easier. The rest of my lineup is just to delay the fight.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent will be taking tons of damage from the collateral damage, and my Dread Tafarian has more damage than my opponent's. This means that I will win if it comes down to the end with both of them against each other.
Round 3
A few rounds later, my opponent is down to just Dread Tafarian so this is my win. I do more damage than he can heal.
I won that match a few rounds later.
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. I played a lineup where I outlasted my opponent, but combining Underboss Fabino with Dread Tafarian worked out in my favor as I could outdamage my opponent while he could not do the same to me.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
