Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Great Bear Druid.
Featured cards
Great Bear Druid is a neutral splinter that costs 9 mana. This card starts with the duo magic and melee damage. Leveling this card increases its melee damage and speed by 1. As this is a frontier card, it can only be upgraded once. This was my first legendary card in Frontier, and it was also the first card that I maxed. At level 2, it has an extra speed and attack so it is more powerful.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan
The rulesets this time are Manuevers and Fog of War. This means that melee monsters gain the reach ability, and no sneak, opportunity or snipe can be used. There is also 59 mana available, and I can use any splinter.
This ruleset is interesting because melee monsters can attack from the second position, and quite a few monsters can't attack from their original position. At the same time, it's rare to see a battle where you can use every single type of splinter.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 Magic |
| New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 1st | Taunt |
| Great Bear Druid | 9 | 2nd | |
| Lunaki Howler | 7 | 3rd | |
| Mystic Scaleweaver | 9 | 4th | Slow |
| Water-Logged Wizard | 6 | 5th | |
| Saltwater Mage | 8 | 6th | |
| Total Mana: | 53 |
My summoner is Incessant Sage for the +1 armor. My tank is New Beluroc Aegis with taunt. After that are all my magic monsters with Great Bear Druid up front.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. I moved around my lineup from my usual setup due to Fog of War. Saltwater Mage is last because I don't have to worry about sneak monsters, and it's more about keeping my monsters alive longer while dealing more damage.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. I have no idea why my opponent did not field a full lineup, and why he used some monsters that lost their ability due to fog of war either.
Round 6
A few rounds later, my opponent is down 2 monsters while I barely took any damage. I can't miss so this is my win.
I won that match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. Great Bear Druid worked out great from that second position. It's too bad that my opponent had such a bad lineup and that I couldn't showcase the strategy as much. However, I do think that I had quite a solid lineup.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
