Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used A'lan Musketeer.
Featured cards
A'lan Musketeer is a neutral monster that costs 8 mana. It only has the double strike ability, but I think it is a fairly good card in Frontier. I got this card recently, and I have noticed that it's a good addition because it is neutral and it can be placed in most fights if I need it. I only have this card at level 1, but the level 2 version of this card is looking amazing, as it would gain another ranged attack.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan
The rulesets this time are Tis But Scratches and High Five. This means that all monsters start off with the cripple ability, and only up to 5 monsters can be used. There is also 44 mana available, and I can use every splinter except for Fire and Life.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 Magic |
| Asel Alagosdil | 4 | 1st | Divine Shield |
| Great Bear Druid | 9 | 2nd | |
| Saltwater Mage | 8 | 3rd | Sneak |
| A'lan Musketeer | 8 | 4th | Double strike |
| Mystic Scaleweaver | 9 | 5th | Slow |
| Total Mana: | 44 |
My summoner is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic attack. My tank is Asel Alagosdil with divine shield. My backup tank is Great Bear Druid. Saltwater Mage has sneak, and A'lan Musketeer has double strike. My last monster is Mystic Scaleweaver with slow.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Asel will tank some hits, and Mystic Scaleweaver is used as a sneak tank just in case. A'lan Musketeer is in the second-to-last spot for that reason as I want to land more cripple hits on my opponent.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match due to my magic monsters. Once my opponent loses his tank, I should have a straight shot at my opponent. I think that my monsters should be able to survive because my opponent's damage is spread out.
Round 3
A few rounds later, my opponent is down to 1 monster, and I have only lost 1.
I won the match as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did go exactly as planned. I set up my lineup to deal damage, and A'lan Musketeer is there to cripple my opponent. It worked out well, and my opponent's tank suffered from that cripple. Using the right monsters made this fight quite easy.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
