Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Water-Logged Wizard.
Featured cards
Water-Logged Wizard is a water splinter that costs 6 mana. This splinter starts with no abilities, but this card learns deflect at level 3.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan
The rulesets this time are Explosive Weaponry. This means that all monsters gain the blast ability. There is also 94 mana available, and I can use every splinter except for fire and dragon.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 Magic |
| Mantaroth | 11 | 1st | Armored Strike and Shield |
| Water-Logged Wizard | 6 | 2nd | Deflect |
| Mystic Scaleweaver | 9 | 3rd | Slow |
| Grimbardun Smith | 6 | 4th | Immunity |
| Daarg Deadblast | 7 | 5th | Weapons Training and Swiftness |
| Ulundin Overseer | 11 | 6th | |
| Total Mana: | 56 |
My summoner is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. My tank is Mantaroth with shield and armored strike. After that is Water-Logged Wizard with deflect. Mystic Scaleweaver has slow. Finally, I have Daarg Deadblast between Ulundin Overseer and Grimbardun Smith for their magic damage and abilities.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. I have Mantaroth tank damage, and Water-Logged Wizard in the second spot because deflect will turn any blast damage into zero damage. It is very powerful at making my opponent do less damage. This allows the rest of my magic monsters to deal more damage.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match due to my lineup. Most my opponents damage is at Mantaroth so that deflect will do decent work. The taunt monster isn't that big of an issue since I am using magic monsters.
Round 2
A round later, my opponent's lineup has just one monster left, and only Mantaroth has taken damage. That deflect absorbed all that blast damage, and this is my win.
I won the match as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did go exactly as planned. The deflect helped my backline monsters survive, and it worked well with a strong tank such as Mantaroth. There wasn't much my opponent could do but I deflect is quite nice in the explosive weaponry ruleset.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
